It was my friend's dad's car and he had it for the day and let me drive it. The ONLY thing i didn't like about it was no awd... :( but even then, it wasn't a huge deal.

AWD-- Some people swear by it others don't care. It has become a selling point up here, but in my opinion if you are worried about taking your car out you don't need to go out.

I've driven a few M3's and I really liked them. I am thinking about picking an E46 up after the new one comes out. But who knows what could happen by then.

right on, is there a difference in the 1/4 time? does the FWD catch the AWD in time?

Depends. Fwd likes to spin and awd likes to bog down unless you got power. If you build each up the same the awd will get a better launch.

the AWD will almost always have a better launch. but i'm just wondering if the GST will catch it before the quarter is done. stock, who has a better time. and don't all AWD cars bog down in around 4th or 5th?

I believe they run the same numbers if you were to roll them @ 20 or so. Once they have traction on the straight away they are pretty much the same car.

why wouldn't the GST take the GSX from a roll? its only supplying two wheels with power to where as the GSX is divided amongst 4. shouldn't the gst take it there?

You make a good point.

In theory yes the GST will pull slowly on the GSX due to more power at the ground and less weight.

But going from rolls is like doing a chick with rolls.

any way going from a roll has to many variables, regardless very close and most GSXs are not stock.

Its a crap shoot. If you pulled up next to me and I was in an AWD car I probably wouldn't launch it. But if you beat me and I got a second chance I'd be two steppin your ****.

**launching**

^^^ I'd be launching it. I figure if you're gonna go, go big or go home lol. Actualy I'm just starting to get decent at launching the TSI awd. Such a fine line between bogging or spinning off the line, along with trying not to genade a driveshaft, axle, or transmission by shocking it too much lol.

Which is why I wouldn't be launching every chance I get because some dude rolled up next to me. ;)

lol I know what you mean and I don't either, I'm just talking about if somebody pulls up next to me, then starts reving or talking trash like they want to run, and even then it's only if the road and traffic conditions are safe. (probably why I've only gotten 1 ticket in the last 14 years) lol

The weight distribution on the tsi is something like 80-20 and the awd likes to stick by that power distribution. ik that at higher speeds and when there is less uneven weight distribution (from the normal) that the computer supplies most of the power to just 2 wheels (not sure if its front or rear). Im not really sure if the minor 20% power transfer to the other set of wheels is gonna make a WHOLE lotta diff. I guess if the race was down to the wire, i could see the gst beating it.

no you mean torque distribution. Not weight.
