So I came back from vacation and my car had 2 inches of ice glued to it. Well I got the roof off fine, but the hood was a b!tch. So as I was going to start breaking it off, the entire 2 inch hood-shaped slab slid off! Which wouldve been cool if it didnt rip 2 foot long scratches into the paint down to the metal... 5000 miles and it already has tons of scratches.

I live in north jersey, I exaggerated a bit on the thickness, but is it just me or is it shoddy paint quality if ice scratches the paint the way it did? What do you guys think?

In my experience with cars, Ive never had this happen and I had a car for 10 years and it had 10 years worth of ice on it and NEVER got scratches, yet the first time this car gets ice on it, it scratches!!

I am contacting Mitsu to resolve this. I have heard of bad paint on Mitsu cars but this is ridiculous. Its 2007 and my 1990 nissan has better quality paint than my Lancer and believe me my nissan has scraped against a few things in its 17 years of use.

I have had alot of ice in ohio too. I try to let it fall off by itself but I guess I should go check out my car to see if there are any scratches. Im gonna be pi$$ed if there are. I have had it for 7 months and no scratches or dents, so two weeks of winter better not scratch it up.

Yeah for sure, I would definitely be wary of trying to break ice off the bodywork. Only on the windshield and other windows is safe. The rest of the bodywork I'd probably just brush whatever you can off. Not worth the risk :)

this is the thing, I wasn't using the scraper on the body work only the window. While I was scraping the window, the hood snow slid off thats when I saw the damage.

If my cars paint can't survive the very first time it gets ice on it, what is it going to look like next year? or the year after?

My last car was a Civic which I had for 10 years. It endured hail on the FIRST day I got it, survived 10 years worth of new jersey winters without any of that ever scratching the clearcoat, let alone the color on it. And with that car Ive had the ice slide off while Im driving. My mother slammed on her brakes the other day (suzuki vitara- 6 years old black paint) and the entire roof slid off and onto her hood, not one measly sign of damage.

But my brand new 2008 car gets messed up from the first time it has ice on it.

I called mitsu and the person I spoke to said they dont think the factory will cover it because its been exposed to the elements DUHHH He said he only sells em and I would have to talk to service. He said he had a guy come in the other day who knocked the antenna off with a scraper, I guess hes trying to imply I did the damage with an ice scraper.

I called Customer service and they referred me to the dealerships service guy. I will talk to him today hopefully and see what happens. This is ridiculous that a car can scratch so easily....

.... and I havn't even complained about the paint that is flaking off the side skirts!

here are pics I took today...seriously, this cannot be normal. The paint is obviously way too thin
