I believe that it would require a conversion kit, and I'm pretty sure there isn't one out there yet specifically for the 08's. Perhaps you can find out if there is a possibility to swap parts from a GTS, but I do believe mountings would be different so some sort of additional parts could be required.

I'm not 100% sure. On that note, it would cost you quite a bit just for the parts and if you're not going to do it yourself, it'll cost you a lot for labor.

I was trying to do that with my old Breeze and the total cost for a conversion kit and all other required parts was over 1000 bucks, just for the parts.

I understand that it would cost me about 1000 or more to do the conversion i was expecting that seeing the conversion for the big break kits which are 3K and up, in addition to the labor, on that note, does any one know if the swap from the GTS to the DE would be possible for the rear break?

I doubt it would be a simple bolt on conversion. The difference in the suspensions could make it a little harder. I would put my money elsewhere but.. Different strokes for different folks!!!

Well I guess you should really reason out why you might need the Drum Breaks replaced?

I guess one reason is that they're a pain in the a$$ to service. But on that note they don't need too much servicing since they're in the rear and don't wear as fast.

I'm not sure what kind of rim there is on the DE, but I guess if you can see the drums then that's pretty ugly.

But when it comes to performance unless you're really going to be breaking "hard" i.e. drag strips or race tracks then you don't technically need disk breaks.
Like I mentioned my old Breeze had drum breaks and I put that thing through hell - rally conditions in the rocky mountains on steep hills etc and it was still working fine. The only problem I ever had with them was when time came to replace them casue (at least the ones in the Breeze) had 3 springs which were really hard to remove and even harder to put on without proper tools (and that I still don't have)....

If Friday b4 Christmas at work, I got nothing better to do... so bear with my ranting hehe.

Drums are a pain the freaking a$$ man. Had them on my Camry, and they SUCKED!!!! Now that I have disk brakes on my GTS, I'm grateful. It doesn't take as much time to come to a stop. Plus, drums lack in the power department. Either I didn't like having drums, or they were $hity.
Sorry to hear you have to live with drum brakes Last Ghostrider!!!!

Not true. It looks like this is dependent on the region. If you look on the Canadian website all the models come equipped with rear disk breaks. On the other hand if you look at the US website, the DE comes with read drum breaks. I don’t fell like looking at other regions or countries or whatever u wanna call it. Zones… whatever…

Either way it appears that some of the ’08 Lancers come with drum breaks.

Model's all over the world can be very differen't.... we (Australia) don't have TPMS.... at least on our ES... which is your DE in the states.

Our base model does have a rear sway bar and disc brake though... :57:

I mean i guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet on this one, it sucks though because aesthetically speaking it is not pleasing to the eye to see nice rims, and nice rotors in the front wheels and nice rims and shitty drums in the rear. It sucks but i think i'm going to follow you guys advice and not do the conversion oh well sometimes **** just happens thanks though

Just find a wrecked lancer with rear disks. Everything should transfer over, granted I havent spent a lot of time looking over it. But from what Ive seen, it shouldnt be tooo hard.

well, well, apparently my pleads for a conversion kit apparently reached the ears of some people at RRM finally came up with a big break kit for the rear of the 08 lancer this is f***ing awesome  hope this helps out those people that would love to put disk breaks on the rear of their cars, the link is below if you guys want to check it out.
