QUOTE(2LANCE8 @ Jan 4 2008, 07:39 AM) I dont have a Lancer yet (looking to buy one) but torque steer is alittle concerning, I have a V6 Camry which is good for 140kw and 260Nm and doesnt torque steer... poor engineering in the Mitsubishi? No poor engineering involved per say. My Scion would pull to the left, once i slapped a turbo on it, it REALLY pulled to the left then. Most front wheel drive cars have it, some have more than others due to a number of reasons. Weight would be one of the most common issues, but Lancer seems to be heavy enough to not have wheel hop, so I know weight is not a problem. Anyways the answer to torque steer is too much power in one wheel and the only way to fix it is to get an LSD (Limited Slip Differential). In lamers term, LSD will spin both axles evenly so the car wont pull in one direction. Remember, the more power you have the worse the torque steer, so if anyone goes turbo - be ready to grab that steering wheel with the second hand :) P.S. Torque steer should only be towards the left side, the driving axle side. If your car pulls in the other direction that could be another problem (unbalanced wheel, something was under tire at the moment of spin-out, or your tires were slightly turned to the right).

QUOTE(Un4given @ Dec 22 2007, 01:29 AM) Mine is manual, and its quite hard to control the steering and stick shift at the same time when the car is pulling you real hard to one side...I would say it could be dangerous for begginers like me, hehe....still I enjoy kicking some Hondas and Nissans butts See what you do is hang on with 2 hands, torque steer should only be a problem in first gear.. once you are moving you can swap back to 1 handed steering if you feel you want to... but everyone knows pro's use 2 hands :D

QUOTE(maike @ Dec 22 2007, 11:46 PM) Our cars definitely need an LSD. Our cars also do not even have active stability control which would help. I get the wheels to spend at almost every light. If any one is planning to turbo charge this car (which I don't recommend) you had better be planning to install a closed LSD. I was planning on using a mivec controller at some point to lower the rpm where the power kicks in but I will have to think twice about doing that. The earlier you get torque, the more likely you are to spin a wheel. Here in Australia ASC (Action Stability Control) is stock through the range. As for the 'torque steering' i have never experienced it and it is not unusuall for me to hit 6000+ revs in first so i dont know maybe my car is a lemon...
