 Timing Problems, can't get timing right on my 84 pajero

hi and i hope someone can help me here.I just got the head of my 84 pajero (2.6lt astron leaded motor) done up and have lined up all the timing marks as it was when it was taken off the car but can-not get it to run.it will fire up under acceleration but starts to backfire through the carby. so if there is anyone with any ideas it would be great.. thanking -you Pete..

your timing could be out by 180 degrees
