Hi all Mitsi and Airtrek/Outlander fans.

Last weekend I saw my odometer hit serious middle age - 75,000 kilometres in my 2003 Airtrek Turbo. It's not quite 2 years old, so i guess the high ks mean I like driving it. I'm ready for my 3rd set of tyres.

It's a great machine for New Zealand roads which are hilly with lots of tight curves. When driving out of town I tend to select the tiptronic manual mode, as I'm sure the car likes it better. The speed limit here (when you're obeying it) is 100kmh and the Turbo Trek with the 5 speed auto isn't quite sure what to do with itself at that speed in top gear, i.e should it spool up the turbo or change down a gear? So I tend to run it in 4th. 120's no problem in top though and neither's 180 (which is as high as the speedo goes).

I'll post a snapshot of it on the site as soon as I wash the squished bugs off. It's standard (not modified) to protect the guarantees. It cost NZ$43,000 new, that's about US$30,100. What do you guys pay?

HA! He's got a turbo Airtrek and asking what we pay here in the U.S.! HA!

1st off. The Airtrek is sleeker and is as much at home at the Hilton valet as it is rolling over tumbleweeds in New Mexico dirt. I don't think you could take an Outlander to the Hilton without a couple of eybrows being lifted in a "you've got to be kidding me" type of glare.

2nd off. The U.S. has no turbo Outlander available! Yet. As far as we know, Mitsu has no plans to put a turbo in a U.S. Outlander either!
We get the 2.4L Mivec engine. Good engine. Good pep. Same engine as our U.S. RalliArt Lancer (yes the Evo is finally available with its turbo).
There is a southern California shop that specializes in aftermarket parts for the Mitsu engines that created a killer turbo though. It pumps the 2.4 Mivec from 160 HP to 245 HP and 255 ft*lb torque (do your metric conversions). It's $4000 U.S. for the kit uninstalled and it wasn't built for the Outlander...it was made for the Lancer, but we could fit it.

The suggested retail price of my 2004 outlander was in the neighborhood of $20000 U.S, but discounts brought it down to $15900 U.S. brand new. That's about the going price for the base 2WD model with alloys, roof rails, keyless remote, smoked glass.
You can get the leather heated seats, ABS, side air bags, fog lamps and 4WD added on for about $6000-10000 more.

I'm looking for a friend that can get Airtrek parts or advertisement stuff. I've loved the Airtrek since I found out there was a foreign counterpart to my Outlander. The scoop on the turbo Airtrek hood is HOT! Maybe we could start an exchange?
Let me know what you think if you're interested. My email is Lord_maser@yahoo.com. My name is Cameron.
