hi all! Just back from Mitsubishi Parts and Service center in NSW, Australia. I've got some very important information (for Australians specifically) regarding warranty issues etc for tuning or mods that you might be interested in fitting.

First of all, ALL the current mods, which include Injen Cool Air Intake, Greddy Exhaust Kit, NGK Iridium Spark plugs, and Springs are all cool! With no effect on the warranty.

What the service guy told me, as long as the original air/fuel sensors are used, it's all good.

As for springs, he said it *may* affect the suspension if there was any issues with the shocks in general. But other then that, it depends on the brands and fitment. I asked about TEIN, and he confirmed 100% that they have made for Mitsubishi in the past and it would be acceptable, with no problems. Not sure about Works or others though.

ECU UPDATES - The ECU was updated with the lastest firmware for December 2007 etc, as the technician told me. Engine efficiency should be even better now! Sweet!

OIL - Oil is confirmed to be Semi-Synthetic in Australia.

Optional service is at 7,500KM. Normal Interval is at 15,000KM. But screw that, I'll do it at 5,000KM...lol

Cheers everyone.

well, I cant really tell ya that, cause I haven't personally even gone past 80kmh during the run in period, nor over 4000RPM. Always below 3000RPM shifts.

According to the mech, it was just a standard procedure ECU update from Japan and it increases the 4B11's efficiency. Nothing too drastic.

The other info is more then good news though! :-)!!!!!

Phoenix,
That is good news.
I just wanted to suggest that during running in you use the entire rev range everyday so it will run in properly, esp so rings seat correctly.
Higher combustion pressures at high rpm will not damage the engine.
As was posted on another thread, the factory does dyno runs to help the engine run in at the factory.
Modern engines should not and need not be baby'd in any way esp during run in.
So long as they and the oil are at operating temps they can safely produce full power.

Aircraft piston engines are the same. Even brand new they spend a large amount of the time, 80%+, operating at 65%-100% power.
Unless accel hard, eg in cruise on hwy in 4th or 5th a car engine is generating very low power, less than 20-30% to maintain speed and overcome drag and wheel friction.

That was the info in training I got and I just spoke to a mate who is a very experienced mechanic and he said the same thing.
Just something to think about, or what youare doing now might do more harm than good.

Thanks for the info phoenix.

Huh 80km/h... run in period... what's that! not like I've gone over 100 yet

I should have the WORKS springs in a few weeks, so I'll see how I go.

Probably have first service due in around then or less.

But thanks again for the info!!!

hmm, thanks for the interesting read. hehehe didn't know that. Oh well, my km's is only 280 right now. I still had to take it in for service, cause the dealer told me it's either 1500km or 1 month, whichever comes first.

on a side note, I bought a spanner set (22pc) for $115 at Bunnings today. Kinda regret now, after I realised that I'd only need the 10mm and 13mm, and probably a Ratchet, along with 10 and 13mm plug ins. Wonder if they'd let me exchange and refund me. ... :(

MickyOz: No probs dude. How much was the Works springs + shipping? I got the TEIN's from SpeedCorps. They have Eibach's now, just noticed.

SS-1 suspension package
Air filter

USD$520.20 which includes shipping to my friend in Colorado, then for the (3) items to me in Australia (Express Mail International) for USD$140, that's what he's calculated it at.
He only charges me for the cost of shipping, no more

email david@speedcorps.com and tell him I recommended you. he'll know you're from AU and stuff then. i've been talking to those guys for a few weeks now. They can hook you up with parts big time.

where are you located at? NSW? I'm in North Parramatta (Oatlands)

if you are, I might be able to show you the hardware once they've been installed.

It's a solid White VRX and i got it from Lander Mitsubishi in Blacktown. I was at Lincorp Auburn/Parramatta and i just disliked the sales people there. They were just "k buy now" and didn't really care at all about you.

And yeah i know where that is. I'm near where Victoria road is.

What colour is yours? VRX too?

Oh ok, I know where that is. Which sales guy did you talk to? Anthony was pretty good. Threw in lots of stuff. Delivery date was messed up though, and they're finance people were horrible. I went outside. Because of all that, the car was there, and i was unable to pick up for 2 weeks cause they messed up.

Mine's a Grey one. VRX, all options no CVT. Was actually the first Manual VRX sold. :)

MickyOz: Actually, you can try SpeedCorps next time, it's cheaper, trust me

I got the parts sent out direct to me, no third party. USPS express.

Greddy exhaust, TEIN springs, NGK plugs, Injen CAI and some custom lettering.

Don't need the bars, I got them standard with the VRX. :P

I intend to use SpeedCorps down the track, but hard to compare, as they have differen't products all together from what I got.
