The car is Carisma 1.8 diesel, from '97.
Both of its main driving lights have stopped working since we've driven the car previously, some 3 weeks ago.
It is not the fuses, we've checked both fuses that seem to be related to head lights.
Also, it is only these lights that are affected by the problem. All the other lights seem to work (the positioning lights, etc) *including* the full head lights.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions of what the problem could depend on.
P.S. I haven't checked the bulbs yet, as it seems unlikely that they both have died simultaneously.
PPS. It is possible to turn the positioning light on (by turning the switch) even without the ignition key inserted. Is this a normal behaviour for Carisma?

It *was* the case that the both bulbs were dead. (It's difficult now to say when exactly each of them died, that is, simultaneously or not.)

I had this same thing happen to me - except that as well as both main beams dying at once, so did both side lights.

I don't know if they did actually die at the same time, or just that I didn't notice until they had all gone ... either way I was stuck many miles from home in the dark. I got home in the end by using full beam! Fortunately the lights on this car are so weedy that no-one seemed to notice
