Whats up im still kinda new to the Eclipse and Turbo World. I jus got my 95 GST! and i've done my research for the car. (Thanks to this fourm) but im still stuck on one thing. So heres my question

Over all, how dose the 4g63 engines hold up, is there any problems that every one has? Should i expect somethin, the motor i have has 65k miles, and the guy i bought it from said the timing belt broke, so you fixed it and rebuilt the whole engine. Pistons, rings, valves, everything.

So should i worry to much about it?

The only thing that you might want to worry about is the balance shaft belt. At times the guys who is rebuilding the engine over look at that belt and don't change it and soon that belt will brake off and will kill your engine again.

When did it break?

Basically your job before you mod the car is to make it like it just came off the showroom floor in 1995. If you replace anything use Genuine mitsubishi parts, OR upgrade.

if you need new struts, don't wait upgrade. Don't be like but I really want an Exhaust so I'll buy half decent sturts and an exhaust. Go out buy good parts and the car will not let you down.

Basic maintenance is a must. Timing belt start thinking about it at 105,000 miles get it done before 115,000 Theres a whole service involved. Its the 60k tuneup.

change the oil. the plugs and wires. flush coolant. normal stuff.

he said the timing belt broke at 60k. so he pulled the engine and went ahead and rebuilt it. struts and things like that are no worries right now. The car is really in great shape. I jus wanted to make sure im not gonna get blind sided by somethin serious! I plan on changing the oil, plugs, plug wires (any recommendations), all that on tues. I good when it comes to keeping up with the maintenance thing.

Also, the car has some good parts already on it. NOthin major. but has an HKS turbo timer, and a Injen Intake.

:00000732:

well where do i begin lol

my 4g63 motor is holding strong for having 150,000 miles on it.

some things to consider to start replacing soon before you hit 100k

check master cylinder
timing belt
water belt
motor mounts!!!!!!! those things are shitty after 150k is on em
axels are a must to be replaced

other than that dude its a very amazing motor to have. they can make serious power if you do the homework and think about ways to make it run great if its a daily driver.

if your gona go into internal work man, save up and get a 4g63 motor to build then throw in cause if its your daily driver, i can bet your gona be spending alot of time in the garage if you have one every weekend ripping and rebuilding your motor. poke around cause i know sites where you can find the JDM 4g63 non turbo motor for only 600 bucks and its like 170hp stock so get a motor to build and then rip everything apart then replace the pistons ods valves etc etc etc.....

its funny because i just told you my build lol thats my whole situation and what the hell ive had to replace/check out

good luck man best of luck
