I'm a Newbie to this forum. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I have a 1985 Mighty Max with the 2.0L engine. It's been such a good truck that I don't want to get rid of it. Recently it started smoking. I tested the compression. To my relief, the compression is good in all cylinders. I took my truck to a friend of mine who is a mechanic to get his opinion. He says he has worked on Mitsubishi trucks like mine and is pretty sure that the smoking problem is due to bad jet valves. I looked in my Haynes manual. It says I need several special tools to remove and replace the jet valves. Does anyone have any experience with jet valves? How will I know they are bad in the first place when I inspect the them? Can I replace them with substitute tools? What are the general steps involved with the removal and replacement of jet valves? (Is it a difficult job?). I need to try to do this job myself because the garage will charge me more than the truck is worth if I go to them for the repair! (I'm hoping to find some good jet valves at a local salvage yard). Thanks in advance for your assistance.
