hey all i was wondering if anyone else with a 4g has had this problem. November of 2006 i was sitting in my car on the phone and noticed a 3 inch crack along the bottom of my windshield. i couldn't remember a stone hitting my windshield but i passed it off as i must have had one. i had the windshield replaced by my insurance company. i went on vacation over the holidays and my car hasn't moved since Dec. 21st and nothing was wrong with it when i parked it. I got home from vacation yesterday morning but i didnt go out to the car. earlier today before i went to work i went to retrieve something out of the car and noticed that my windshield was cracked again only on the side by the A pillar. its cracked in about 5 different directions in a weird pattern and i cant find an impact and there inst any other damage on my car. now i am beginning to wonder if it wasn't an impact and there is something with these windshields that are making them prone to crack for no apparent reason. I just know that if i go ask the dealer if there has been any problems with them they will tell me no and if i have them replace it they will make me pay for it. any ideas, thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

never heard that before they just dont crack on their own.one thing i can think of is that it may have been chipped on the edge under the weather strip prior to instalation then cracked afterwards.

Yeah, that's what happened to one of my old cars. That along with leaving the windows closed on a 100+ degree day.

well my windshield was replaced yesterday and i found out what happened. it was a stress fracture. one of the layers must have had a weak spot and just cracked. I work in a glass factory that makes bullet proof windows and i know that if there is a week spot i can crack like that but generally if it does its during the bending or laminating stage where they put the layers together. I just figured i would let people know the outcome so if someone read this they didn't think it was a common thing.
