Hi Everyone,

Got a 1996 Mitsu Space Wagon 2.0 GLXi. When driving around or idling, the horn is sounding intermitently with a weak parp. I've taken the steering wheel horn pad apart but the springs that separate the contacts all seem OK. I bought the car in July last year and all seemed fine until it started getting cold. I'm thinking it could be a warning signal that the battery is low on charge, but without a handbook or Haynes manual published, I can't check. The battery did fail just before Xmas, and I've topped it up, re-charged it and the car is starting reasonably OK (a bit laboured on frosty mornings) but the horn still persists. I'm thinking also that the battery is too small for the car, as there's about a half inch gap between the sides of the battery and the inside edges of the battery tray. I've taken the fuse out now. It could be a fault with the horn itself, I don't know. Can anyone help? :)

i doubt it would be the horn, the horn can only sound if there is voltage and therefor current to drive it my first sudjestion would be (i'm not familiar with your car but on mine) to remove the horn cover from the middle of the wheel and and i believe there will be a cable connection a section of the metal aperatus to earth (or somthing like that) disconnect it temorarily and see if the problem persists, if it does then u can rule out a problem in the steering wheel mechanisim. if it helps i believe the horn has 12v to the positive when the accessories is switch on (ignition key position) and that the horn is activated when the circuit is completed by a ground connection which is switched on and off in the steering colum, i hope this helps :)
