I think my wheel bearings are done. I can move my wheels back and for with ease. I'm wonder if anyone had there wheel bearings replace and how much it cost. I think the guy on the phone said $860 for all four. I'm putting so much in to have things fix that i will never have money to MOD it.

I have an 96 eagle talon TSI awd

That price sounds about right. They are a pita to replace especially if rust is an issue.

If you can find the bearings in a junk yard you should be able to do it yourself.

why do you want junk bearing ??? you don't know what is the condition of them. To do the work of front and rear bearing its needs a lot of time. parts are cheap.

is that why it cost so much?

a kid at work told me my wheel bearings went bad because i'm always driving in AWD. i didnt ask him to explain, but is this true? The rears are worse then the front. I think its just normal wear and tear of an 12 year old car. I dont know what the previous owners did to it. I know i'm paying almost as much in repairs then what i bought it for though.

Here is a easy way to check your wheel bearings, It may take 20mins (I'm guessing).

here's how:
Jack up one wheel at a time, you put on hand on top and on hand on bottom (think of a face of a clock, 12 and 6 o'clock). Then you push back and front to see if there is any play if you do then your bearings are gone.

Slap your friend like an imbecile that he is. Everything in your car can be/need to be replace with time/age. I'm changing all the suspension bushing because time, age, and mother nature has taken a toll on them.

I can move my wheel back and forth on the ground they're that bad! They move easily.

Ok, i plan on fixing this myself hopefully next weekend with the imbecile from work. i want to make sure i order the right parts. Here is a link to the front hubs i'm plan to buy... http://www.autozone.com/R,APP993555/vehicl...oductDetail.htm

I'm going to buy hubs for the rear as well. are there anything else that you can think of that i will need to buy? I've never done this before i dont want to be in the middle of it and have to order another part.

Thanks in advance.

I had my mechanic replace the rear wheel bearing, i replaced it with this part: Bearing and he took almost 2 hours...There was a lot of rust and it was a pain to get it out and then pressed it in...I guess i should of bought the whole wheel hub instead of just the bearing. Anyway you do have the right part...good luck changing it if you are going to do it yourself...you are going to need it.

I guess you don't understand the meaning of using a jack. You know you are just rocking your car, right. oh and that is a very logical answer.

By doing what you did. You have the weight of the car on those bearings by doing so you CAN NOT feel the play by doing so.

Thank you for a helpful reply. The only reason why i haven't put them on jacks and tested it your way is, cause its freezing where i live and i would have to drag my jack/jack stands down the road where my cars parked. But I will do it before i start ordering parts or whatnot. Hopefully its not my wheel bearings and your right, it will save me alot of money!!

Thanks everyone in this thread.
