I have an '04 that doesn't have the rear sub-woofer. How do I take off the back panel to access to install one? I was told by a Mitsu serv dept that there is wiring already installed I just need to add the speaker. Is this true

From my understanding the wiring for the subwoofer is present (I believe they have to legally to this if they have a place for it). You have to take the whole back panel off to access the area for the subwoofer.

I took the back panel off and the wiring isn't present. The only wiring there is for the 12v plug in the back. I believe that wiring is only for the infinity system cause also there isn't any rca outs on the back of the head unit (radio) to run to an amp for signal. I think I'll just buy a new face and cut it for a aftermarket head unit cause this one is gotten old real quick. Thanks though for your help

Well,...I took my vehicle to Best Buy. They did a great job installing the amp to my stock Receiver but then they sucked on the rest. They installed a 8' Fosgate stage 2 sub in the stock opening,.....they couldn't even tune the sub, didn't even warn me the sub is closed box sub and not an open air type and that’s why they could not tune it!!?? They said I would need to have the sub enclosed behind the wall. I was pissed but I didn't get my car back till they closed. I went back a couple of days later after spending but loads of money on the sub, amp and install that I could not even enjoy. I ended up having to buy another Sub(12' Stage 2) in a box and using that which they gave me a deep discount on and free install. The 8' sub is still sitting in the stock location unused.

Removing the rear quarter deck panels....Ok let me try to explain it:

First of all the wiring harness is the same for all the models, hence the sub wire is there. You need to keep in mind that you are working with plastic that if bent will leave a stress mark, so, with this imind the task is simple to remove the whole i/s quarter panel. Should take about 30 minutes using a screw gun and a 10 mm socket and phillips #2 bit.

Remove the tire cover, then remove the inside plastic grommets inside the spare tire well. remove the screws and pull up on the plastic cover, it goes over the lower latch housing as well.

Now you will see on the right panel and assy panel, remove it. Looking in the whell well area you will see some gold screws, some might be blk. remove these as well.

As memory serves me there are also some 10 mm bolts that need to be removed, 2 if I can recall.

I always removed the upper seat belt holder, just pop off the cap and unbolt it. remove the seat belt cover panel located on the top of the quarter panel, it should just pop out.

At this point you should have all screws and bolts removed. Start on the back, where the panel meets the weatherstrip and gentle pull the bottom of that panel toward the spare tire or center of the vehicle being careful not to bend it to much. Once you get it started reach up on the top of the panel with your left hand and put your right hand inside the panel from the back and push up where the rear window meets the panel, follow it toward the seat belt to lift it straight up. It should also pop out. now you will have the panel off with the seat belt hanging loose. sit this whole mess on the rear pass seat. You will have all the space need to install any speaker, and the wire harness will be plugged into a dummy terminal, or if some lame **** didn't plug it in hanging loose with electrical tape on it. Just do not reach back into the hole by the tail light and mess with any of that wiring, it is for the abs sensors. It should be covered with some type of plastic material.

When you reinstall start at the top of the panel by the rear window and gently press them in once it is properly aligned.

I am trying to do this from memory, I have do a bunch of these in the factory for one reason or another, bad panels, stress marks etc. so, if I missed a screw or bolt don't flame me....

Gary

The rca plugs are not on the radio unit because the factory installed amp is run with a digital cable. The factory amp is located on the passenger side and it fits up along side the glove box. A real pain to remove it.
