I have a 86 L300 and i have a bit of a issue. Every now and then i just cant get into gear. Most of the time i can change gear no problems. But sometimes i stop the van and when i start again and try and engage first ( or any gear) it will not go into gear.. With the engine off its fine. I start and restart the engine 5 or 6 times and it comes fine.. Drive around for a week or so and then it happens again.. ANy ideas??

Hi!

Sounds like the culprit might be a siezing spigot bearing! Any noises associated with this?

Regards
Ken

Yes, most likely dry/collapsed spigot bearing but I've also come across clutch plates that suction on to the fly wheel if the plate is contaminated with oil, the rivets fill up with gunk and create a cavity that holds vacuum when the car cools down. Either way you'll need the gearbox out to check.
