okay im looking at either a high compression piston, or a low compression piston for my 4g63 non turbo motor 93. and i was wondering what would benefit the non turbo setup, and what would see more of a power gain? because this is probably going to be my biggest power gain is a new piston/rod combo from eagle so i want to have a well rounded level of power from low rpms to mid to high and well im not sure what path to go....

i either want a 9:1 compression ratio, or an 8:3:1 compression ratio.

IF you go lower compression you're already setting yourself up for F/I. The fact that you're running a 4g63 non turbo practically screams at you not to go F/I tho. I would go with the 9:1, maybe even higher.

okay cause i was talking to my mechanic about the pros and cons on n/a vs turbo and a set of pistons would benefit a non turbo motor simply because of the ratio im assuming, and because there 1mm oversize stock and forged thats gona help out a lot. im not to aquatinted with pistons and compression ratios quite yet but im learning....

i wana to have a setup where the power is going from low rpm all thw way to high rpms without boost.....so i dont know if that sounds vague or confusing, but i was just asking what kind of pistons would cause that to happen

You need to go with high compression if your not going turbo.

with a 9 or a 8 compression that is still low. you need something like a 10 compression. higher rev would be good too.

they make a 10:1 compression piston? :)

i'll try to look into that, cause the only ratio i found with the highest compressiopn was 9:1

It will probably be hard to find high compression pistons for your car because your engine was meant to be stock turbo lol

The 3000GT non turbos are 10:1. I would suggest nothing lower then that.

P.S. I really hate this idea of an all motor eclipse, it sounds like you have to much honda left in you. The reason I say this is because Honda Motors have been known to kick **** while being NA because their cars weigh in at under 2000LBS

Your car?

well dude your right. i am a honda freak, cause its what im surounded by with all my friends driving hondas and them all racing everyone and beating the piss outa everyone with their little dohc vtec motors almost bone stock.

but i really like the idea of a naturally aspirated car cause its more reliable and there's not a whole lot you can do to mess **** up unless you drive it into the ground, but everyone does that now-a-days.

but i want to build a n/a eclipse cause no ones done it and i want to prove people wrong when they say your wasting your time and money....

what wasting money or the honda freak? but think about it dude. if i take the advantage and fully build my motor with everything from the ground up so its boost ready if i wanted to throw together a turbo setup it wont be beneficial cause i built my motor. and i heard time and time again the stock internals, blocks/heads can handle anything you throw at it, and this case its lots of boost....so i think im on the safer side with the build. but i just love how a n/a motor sounds once it hits its peak and just takes off......

No because when you dig into your motor you have to decide what compression you are going to run.

High compression and boost isn't an option.

Low compression and your soft on power with out a turbo

Price it out. Its not cost effective at all. And I don't see you making that power.

well i know for starters i either wana rebuild my 50k 4g63 non turbo motor, or get the same motor with like 30k on the motor and rip it all apart and replace everything.

but the really big upgrade im getting as far as performance goes is the crank, and pistons/rods and eagle makes the whole rotating assembly (pistons rods and crank) for around 1300 on slowbowracing.com i think. im not positive on the price but after that im going with a buschurracing stage 1 head with valves springs and retainers from them included in the head for around 670. the clutch im up in the air about cause im torn between a few. unorthodox ss pullys are like 350 and cam gears then im done

i just dont want to boost my car. if that makes it any easier to understand why i want to go n/a

But dude, you think about it.

Don't flip flop on your argument. When you rebuild a motor you choose your path High compression no boost low compression boost.

Once you go one route theres no turning back.

Why are you hell bent of NA from a 1.8L motor? Your slow now and your going to be slow later.

well its not a 1.8 its a 2.0

and i just want to do something thats origional and no one has. yeah its cool to boost a car, and its great to have a quick gain of power, but i just am not a big fan on forced induction. i just like natural power. so you can harp on me all you want, but chances are im not gona change my mind on this build.

but im deciding now to begin saving now for a new daily driver cause my eclipse is my daily now, so once i save like 3g's im gona get a daily, then begin ripping my eclipse apart, and building it.

My bad. I was thinking of something else with the 1.8.

So after its all said and done your car weighs 3000 LBS with 200 HP you have 15 LBS per Horspower...

Vs somone who spent half as much with 300 and has 10 LBS per Horspower.

This isn't an 1800 LB Honda Son. You will see mid 15's which for the $4000 about to be invested isn't impressive at all. Your still gonna be walked all over by the new Si Hell My TC is going to walk it.

The compression is 9:sosmthing you need to go atleast 12 13: something to make any power here.

Is it possible to bore the motor to 2.4? Your exhause shouldn't be bigger then 2 1/4 and your already at $1100 and you still haven't hit 170 WHP

Last time I checked your sitting on about 105 WHP in your current setup

Its good to be original but when your original thinking gets toasted by the maid brigade in their PT cruiser with four ladies and full cleaning supplies hows that make you feel?

i know that i can bump up the displacement to a 2.3 litre stroker with a eagle package. and my motor is a little shy im assuming of 140-150? i have the basic mods like a 3inch exhaust (which has a story to tell why its 3 inch) injen short ram intake, and a exhaust header. i read the stock 2.0 4g63 is producing about 135hp but whats it at the crank like 110 something? see i dont know the actual numbers for sure so its a guestimation.

if i bump the displacement up and with a nice compression ratio that could be a nice gain if everythings done right
