Hi I have a 1.8 GDI Auto, It does not rev over 3000rpm, We have had the head of and full de-coke throttle body cleaned, EGR Valve Cleaned and yet the car still does not run right. Actually it does not idle after all the work carried out.

Please help I am Tearing my hair out!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the problem that I had with my 2001 Carisma, the solution for me was to replace the Mechanical fuel pump on the engine with a second hand one from a breakers.
There are 2 pumps fitted, one in the Fuel tank which is electrical and the other which was my problem is Mechanical and is located at the back of the engine on the right hand side as you look at the car from the front.
Try Jap Auto Parts in Birmingham Tel: 0121 772 3205, when I called them and described the symptoms they told me that it was the fuel pump and that were 2 that I could use for my car.
The pump is not too difficult to fit once you know where it is, took me about 1 hour to do myself.

hi ... very interesting problem, from my experience to date, some of the problems relate to the throttle body were poor engine performance and running are concerned, i cleaned the throttle body thinking this was the problem, and to be honest there was very little carbon in the inlet and around the butterfly,, but the engine cut out and limp home mode came back after a few weeks, the error code again pointed to the throttle body, so i sent the body back for repair /refubish . not a cheap job, the body was returned , and there was apprently a fault with the body but they would not say what !. to cut a long story short. the car is transformed plenty of power , nice idle, and good fuel consumption, i do about 40 hot miles a day at motor way speeds . and the gdi loves it. engines dont like short shopping trip. trust this helps... ( the joys of motoring )
