Hello people :57:
Just bought a used 1997 Carisma 1.8GLX (thats a 4G93 engine, from what I can see on the label in the engine room), automatic transmission, petrol.
Getting the car back home and the morning after I was off to a bad start - dead battery. It's probably because the cars stood still for a while. I replaced the battery and it seems to charge OK and everything.
BUT... After I had the battery out my idle speed is not as before. It's now so low, guessing no more than 200 RPM, that the engine almost stops and then gives itself a boost. So the RPM is in "waves", so to speak. Sooner or later it stops.
I tried following another post (http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php?act=ST&f=67&t=26660 ) on low idle speed after battery change I found in here:
1. Disconnect battery and shortcircuit the car to reset the engine control "memory". 2. Reconnect batt. 3. Turn off everything electronic in the car and run at idle for 10 mins. Stop engine. 4. Turn on everything electronic in the car and run at idle for 10 mins. Stop engine. 5. Go for a drive.
However in point 3 after about 10 mins of running ok the idle speed is back at very low and RPM starts going in "waves" until it finally chokes itself. After the engine stopped I countinued with point 4 and it was ok, but way too low idle, for almost another 10 mins before the same happened and it finally stopped.
As far as I can tell the engine behaves the same before and after this procedure. So maybe this was a GDI-only procedure, or maybe somethings wrong with my car.
Now I've browsed through the 4g93 workshop manual and the Carisma workshop manual - and I cannot find any procedure to reset the "idle speed stepper motor" which is probably whats need to adjust itself (right?)...
Also I've read about alot of GDI's needing to regularily clean the throttle chamber, is that something I should a source of problems with the GLX too? Is there a more detailed procedure on how to do the cleaning procedure somewhere?
I always feel proud of myself when I able to do it on my own, however I'm abit nervous with the Carisma. My crashed car was a 1990 Galant GLSi which was more of a traditional carburator engine and less electronically controlled - I think.
Seems to be a good active Carisma community here! :)
Best regards, Magnus
