ok so my car is driving funny and i can't figure it out. I am pretty sure it's fuel related, but if I give the car a lot of gas it drives normal, but when I go over 3200 rpms it feels like something is just holding it back and it doesn't have the power it should have. The turbo is working, but also on the freeway when i have it on cruise control, it feels like a bike does when its getting low on gas. Any ideas otherwise I am going to just take it to Road Race and let them look at it. It is only the higher RPMs though. I took it to Mitsubishi and paid 160 bucks to have them tell me they don't see anything wrong, but we all know they are idiots. Its just not accelerating like it should. I feel like I'm driving my RS.

Sounds like mine when the MAS was starting to go. When it did go it was like the engine was cutting out all the time and choking itself out. Try running with your MAS Air Flow sensor unplugged. Do not stomp on the gas while you do this as it will be running in default mode. If the problem is no longer there then you you've found the problem. If the problem persists you have eliminated a problem to look at.

If it IS the problem you can get an OEM replacement easily at the wreckers yards or fairly cheap on EBay. Brand new the part is over $300...used it is under $50

sounds like it could be spark plugs, usually the problem for me.

You are talking about apples and oranges.

for the 2g turbo cars. the t25 turbo starts to boost around that rpm range.

yea i'll check those, also to note, my gas mpg sucks really bad now. I am going from fueling up once a week to three times a week. Does relate to one over the other, thanks. Let me know I took tomorrow off to get it checked. All the hoses are connected though I checked that first. Also, it started happening after I got hit a month ago. I don't know if they are related, but I got hit in the back driver wheel, but i had the diff and frame and everything checked. Its all ok, I'm just wondering if it reset something. It was parked with the e brake on and it got pushed into the curb then about 15 ft forward.

When my car was doing that it was the spark plugs. I tooke them out and looked at themand noticed the guy i bought the car from put Bosch Platinum Plus 2's in it like a tard. But it ignited once and blew the tip off of it an when it would come into boost it would start blowing the spark out. Def. check the plugs, MAS, and get the fuel filter replaced. Those will definetly eliminate the problem.

alright you know i went to change the plug like 6 months ago and one of them was was too tight and it felt weird when trying to take it out so i left it without changing. Maybe its the problem. The other ones come out fine. thanks I'll check that today.

ok so today my check engine light came on and the code p0170 came up. Says either MAF or injectors are the possible causes. So i unplugged the MAF like you guys suggested and there wasn't too much of a change performance wise. The car felt the same, but ideled a little higher. Do you guys think I should buy the MAF? its 200 at autozone. Let me know, thanks...or is there a way to check beofre i go buy one?

I would check out the injectors before you buy the maf. Did u check for boost leaks? are you getting full boost on a vaccuum boost gauge?

DO your spark plugs and wires first.

those have already been done, but when i did it one of the plugs was really tight and wouldn't get loose...so i didn't risk breaking it...could that be the problem?

Doubtful. Did you replace or just leave it in there? if you left it in there, go ahead and try to get it off. Hope it doesn't break?

My GSX does the same thing. Every now and then i get a CEL triggered by the MAS and the throttle position sensor. Ive ordered a new MAS but it isnt here yet. Ill tell ya if that fixes my stuttering problem, but im willing to bet money that yer MAS is dead or dying.

When were the plugs done? I've seen them go in 5000 miles before.

I had a similiar problem and thought it was the turbo at first, then my mind went into overdrive and I started looking at the BoV, MAF as well as other things all the way to the injectors and fuel system.
It ended up being a spark plug wire issue. I missed it 3 times in taking the plugs out.

Be SURE that you take the wires out and do a super inspection job on any part of the wire that goes below the top level of the camshaft cover. If you are using the OEM wire set then look really good at the heavey rubber plug end for a grayish white color. In the middle of the discoloration will be a little pin hole caused from an arch from the spark plug to the metal lining of the plug shaft through the cam.

At the RPM range you are at and experiencing problems is the same range where the spark gets ramped up, so arching only occurs at about 3k rpm and above. Before you spend ungodly amounts of money grab the magnifying glass and look those wires over really reallly, REALLY good. I would go so far as to change out the wire set to make extra sure it is not them.

The other problem can be the improper plugs. No frills or gimics on these motors. The best performance I have seen through the engine on stret and on the 1/4 mile is the good ol' NGK plug. I tried those iridiums and the split fire plugs, but nothing worked even close to as well as the NGK OEM spec ones.

Change the plugs and wires. Do not reuse anything.
