Hey this is my first post. Been looking on this forum and have seen alot of people having similar problems with the Mitsubishi carisma.

I have 2001 Mitsubishi carisma 1.8 GDI Equippe. The problem I am having at the moment is that it has high revs. I have a question but i will tell you what i have tried so far as it may help some of the problems others are having.

When i first bought the car i couldnt find a garage that had a computer so i thought id look around and try to see if others had the same problem. First thing i tried was taking the throttle body of and cleaning it as it was clogged up bigtime. Didnt fix my problem tho. I also tried spraying wd40 around the pipes as sometimes a small tear can cause the
high revs.

I finally found a place that had a computer and they said that the best thing to fix the problem was replacing the entire throttle body and sensors. Problem is a brand new one of the dealers is 1100 quid with the vat which is a laughable amount for a part.

So my question is does anyone know where i may be able to get one cheaper? i have tried all the breakers in northern ireland and no one seems to have it.

Thanks.

Try E Bay, there is a company on there called BBA remanufacturing who will recondition your old throttle body, I have not used them but E Mail them and see what they have to say.

There is another E Bayer on there and from personal experience I would not consider using this one as they said they had reconditioned my throttle body when in fact it hadnt been!!!

I ended up having a new one fitted at the dealer which cost me £1200 (Ouch)

Hope this helps.

hi,, sounds like a problem with the throttle body, this is a fly by wire device, IE: no throttle cable. apparently the servo that drives the air inlet butterfly can develope wear and become out of sync with the positioning sensor. and this will cause erratic tickover , poor emmisions etc. this will bring the engine managment light on and generate a error code . . yes it is difficult to find someone with a pc and softwere to check the electronics. the throttle body need removing and sending to desent repair /refurbish specialist, the cost £250 tops.
you will need to supply all the info about the car engine type chassie numbers etc.
on its return you should have some set up paper work , this entails takeing the car on a 30 min drive for it to relearn all the settings. give scrap yards a miss as you need to fit a body with the same numbers as the original, and you dont get the set up instructions ,and it might be part worn.
remove the two electrical connectors . four bolts hold the body to the inlet manifold. remove the two water pipes that heat the body ..held by j clips and plug with the bolts.

i trust this helps .. if you are brave remove and clean the carbon build up in the inlet manifold. ( very little in mine after 54,000 miles ).
the above fix transformed my car. no problems over the last 2000 miles.
but i am touching wood and finger crossed... good luck .. the joys of motoring.
ps. the gdi does like a good hot run now and then with plenty of revs... clears the lungs.

good advice from dale .....try bba..... there are no simple fixes, wd 40 etc... you may have to bite the bullet if you are good with spanners /screwdriver and diy ..give it a go. good luck.

Im good with a spanner indeed. I took the throttle body of last night and looking at the manual of how its put together adjusting the butterfly has took out the revs completly.

Ive just to make a few adjustments today as i ran out of light last night. Ill let you know what happens.

Thanks very much for your replys. If it doesnt work gettin it referbished is the only option as im not paying 1100 quid for the part brand new. Didnt even pay 1100 for the car.
