I have the same model and problem and will try and fill yourself and other readers what I found out so far.

Currentlyt, I am trying to get a new "Mitsi Multi Communication System" disk from Mitsi as mine is dated 2001. The problem is that the harware was only released in Japan and the software used is propritory to the company. This makes it impossible for other companies to copy or develop aftermarket software without the original source codes. This problem is not unique to Misti owners as Toyota and Nissan have similiar system. All of these companies developed their own codes to use in thier systems only.

As of 2002 the Jap motor companies have gotten together to develop a "standard" format for GPS/Nav software which will include English versions. I am trying to get a copy of this when available to try in my Pajero. I am not certain if it will work in any of the pre 2003 models as some of the program may be held in the EPROM located within the hardware. This will take a bit more investigation.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

Jim

Jim, it sounds like you know a bit more than I do. I have asked nearly every person I have seen as to how I can solve this SAT/Nav problem. One comment was to replace the EPROM and replacing it with a version that is compatibale with the country I am in. I do not know where to start looking for this.
Is this an option to try as I have not seen any more news of how to solve this?

Sorry, I have made little progress with this problem. I'll try and explain where I am at.

If the basic display data is stored in the EPEROM , which I think that it is, it will virtually impossible to get a new EPROM unless Mitsi releases the source codes. If a newer version works with the older models then I could copy the PROM and email to anyone who is interested or snail mail the new PROM's. This would only cost about $25 but electrostatic precaustions would have to be followed in order to re-fit. At this time I do not have a version which works and I really don't know how the software operates. Remember that this problem is only with the models released in Japan and have been exported as used vechicles. As far as I am aware Mitsi has not released a version similiar to what we have for export. If anyone know of this and can explain how it works it would be helpful in solving this problem.

So far I have not had a positive response from Mitsi and the dealers I have spoken with don't know anything. If it is of some consolation there are similiar problems with other car companies dealing with the same issues. Most of them recomend replacing the entire unit with an aftermarket model. This is not so easy with the Mitsi's as their unit controls other functions like temperture, speaker balance, CD channels, etc . Sorry I can't be more helpful but it is always frustrating when working with propritity sofware.
