I have got a 1999 2.5v6 Galant. I'm pretty sure it's the immobiliser thats causing my troubles. Sometimes when I try to start the car the starter spins but the engine won't fire, if I lock then unlock the car it then starts straight away, sometimes I have to lock & unlock it a few times before it starts.
I don't have the remote key for the car, don't know if this could be a problem.
