Hello,

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES-v6 with approx 45k miles on it. i have been trying to live with this problem and avoid it as much as possible but it doesnt seem to be clearing itself up anymore. when ever I false start it (thats crank the key but the car doesnt start) then cycle the key again the car will start on the first crank but it will idle to 3k for a few seconds, then it slowly comes down to 500-600 rpms. the lights start to flicker and the idle goes all over the place. after about 2 days of driving like this (it doesnt clear itself) the c.e.l. comes on. i checked it at work today and its PO300 multiple/random cylinder misfire. the last time this happened as soon as i cleared the code the idle smoothed out. I chalked it up to crappy gas and put in tier 1 but its still doing it. this is really pissing me off. the car won't idle when this happens and i've stalled it at red lights, slow traffic and drive thru's any suggestions?

UPDATE: the car will not idle still and now the transmission is shifting rough from 1-2.
UPDATE 2: idle is fixed. there was a persistant hissing sound that i could never track down because the car would stall out by the time i would get under the hood to listen that i finally just took a chance and popped off the hose that connects the air intake tube to the intake manifold. it was actually 2 hoses 1 on top of the other because the ports were different sizes, the larger hose was there to add pressure around the smaller hose to keep vacuum. which is a great idea unless the hose has a bulge in it like mine did. i took off the larger outer hose and zip tied it to the manifold port. idles fine but the car misfired this morning. probably has something to do with the half can of throttle body cleaner i put through it to clean my blackened throttle body plate. I'm just leaving this on here in case someone else has this problem it gives them a starting point where i had to make it up as i went along
