Hey I have noticed this squealing sound when I start my 02 Galant 2.4. It doesn't sound like a belt squeal, it sounds more metallic, and it seems to originate from the pump or whatever on the front of the engine above the AC compressor. Can anyone help me trace this sound, from own experience maybe? It seems worse the colder the engine is, but it never goes away entirely regardless of engine temp, just gets quieter. There is a fair amount of rust on the engine, but everything else seems to be in good working condition. Does anyone know what this pump is, it has a hose going to the power steering fluid reservior and also what appears to be an AC hose coming out of the same component running to the back side of the block. Could the pulley/bearings be replaced without a whole new component? Or is it just an idler pulley underneath maybe? Please help, it's so annoying.
