I purchased my new GTS with NAV in the beginning of December 2007. I was driving around and started to play with the NAV to see what was near me for food when I noticed it seemed out of date. I then tried to find a close Mitsubishi Dealer and even the one I was passing wasn't listed. I stopped in and asked about any updates and they did say that a new one came out in the middle of December 2007 and mine had the old maps. I of course asked about updating them and they said it was an accessory part that needed to be ordered and it cost 300. I of course was not going to pay that since the car was brand new and the updates just got released within 2 weeks of me buying the car. They suggested I contact the 800 number for Mitsubishi. After some arguments with them they finally agreed to send the updates and cover it since I was within 2 weeks of when I bought my car and these updates came out even though my car was built back in July 2007 (guess the dealer sat on this one for a while).

The updates came and I went to just pick it up (thinking it was a disk that I pop in and let it do its thing). Well it wasn't so simple. It is a disk and this key fob thing that connects to the bottom of the screen when its open. The car needs to be running (not just in accessory mode but running) for 100 minutes while the disk downloads and the key fob connects to the satellite. Of course the car has to be stationary too so its not like you can do this while driving. I was given the parts but was told it will only update one system only.

Long story short after 100 minutes (and a lot of wasted gas) I now have new maps and new places in the points of interest including the dealership that wasn't there before the update.

So for those of you interested in an update, they are available but not cheap and if you just got your car, I say call and complain and get them to send it to you for free (espeically if you just got the car in December or now).... :right:

Cool....I called up Mitsu the other day & they wouldn't do anything for me. I just bought the car on Jan. 26th. The dealer told me that the update would cost me $115

I'm going to call up Mitsu in the morning & beeeeoonch like hell until they give me an update.
My car was built about the same time yours was & I probably have the outdated map as well.....

For those of you that bought your car before December and/or don't have an extra 300 bones layin around, I found this site:

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/download/...wn_mmcs_01.html

Update takes about 5 min tops and its free. Downside is I doubt its as thourough as the 300 dollar update from mitsu.

Hope that helps some of you.

This only updates the Gracenote Database, not the Navigation.

Any news on the Navi update? I called my dealer and they said that the Navi in the Lancers are Satellite driven and never needed updates. I told him he was wrong, that the maps in the system need updated. Does anyone have a part number for the Navi update? I have heard that it is a disc and it takes a while to complete.
Any help would be appreciated.

Man....4x's I called up complaining about the Navi being waaaaaay outdated & I got shot down EVERY time! "There is nothing that we can do for you...you will have to go back to the dealer that you purchased it from & see if they will update it for you. If they won't update it for you, call us back & we will open a case number & then we will find out why the dealership won't update it for you."

Man what a freakin headache!

The dealership has been cool enough to allow me to update it, but the guy said why not just wait for a newer version to come out & we'll install that one for you?
But of course they don't really know just when that will be.....annoying!

It took me 3 phone calls to Mitsubishi to get them to authorize the part to be sent to a dealer. They wanted me to do the leg work and I refused. I reminded them that when I bought the car it was not my fault the dealer didn't sell it in a reasonable manner and when I bought it, it was with outdated information. I also reminded then that if I went to a store and bought a gallon of milk that was out of date I could return it or it wouldn't be sold in the first place but with a car I didn't have this option. I demanded a case be opened for it and after the 3 calls I got what I wanted because I just kept over talking the rep when they said this was up to the dealer to fix and not them. I also lied and said the dealer I bought the car from was out of state and I couldn't go back to them and that finally worked when they sent it to a different dealer.

The maps came out in the middle of December so I am sure there will not be another until December time frame again.

As big of a pain in the a@@ it was to get the updates I don't regret getting the NAV. It gives you the touch screen for the radio features. I like the the music server with hard drive and the option to play DVDs while the car isn't moving. I also like all the cool things it can do with dialing phone numbers on the touch screen, the service records, calandar, etc etc.

I look at this way... how often do roads change? I am sure the points of interest change often but the actual roads don't change often. I now have the most current maps out and come December (if another update comes out) I will probably pass since I will have to pay for it. I will probably do it again in 09. Every other year is fine to get the updates. I just wasn't going to start off out of date with a brand new car!! :)

On a side note.... I use to have a Garmin portable NAV that I do need to still get rid of and that required an 80 dollar (US Dollar) update every year if you wanted the latest and greatest so Mitusubishi charging for theirs isn't all that bad. I just wish an update would come out that actually told you the street names to turn onto istead of "Turn Right". I miss that with the Garmin as it use to say "Turn Right on Main Street"

it is the latest and greatest--it also includes the gracenote music update--it does take 100 minutes to update the nav

I agree with everything that you say.
But as far as being able to add on accessories to it, you are pretty limited.
All that you have mentioned, you can do the same with a Pioneer, or an Eclipse head unit.

I have a case open with Mitsu about this. I should hopefully hear back from them after Easter. One way or another I will get that silly update. I mean come on.....we didn't buy used cars, we bought new cars. They should have the latest update in them when you buy them....just my opinion.

I will post back once I get a reply. That plus the tire issue.

I just opened a case with Mitsubishi today. I said that I was unaware when I purchased the car that it had a 05 map and that I wanted to get the update and that I didn't feel that I should pay for it because I was not told it was an 05 map when buying the car. They told me that the newest update is an 06 map. Wow thats straight up stupid. So they said they would call me back within 24 hours. She said she couldn't promise me anything. But I will say there is no way I am paying for an upgrade.

I had to get the dealer to eat the Navi upgrade cost because the obnoxious and nasty women (Deidra) at Mitsubishi kept on saying my vechile was a year old when I only purchased it 5 months ago. I couldn't believe how crappy the customer service is at Mitsubishi. The only reason I would even consider buying another Mitsubishi it how helpful the Manager in Maywood NJ has been. If I could hack the disconnect and reconnect of my Garmin I would have never went for the built in Navi. My Garmin has so may more features it puts my built in system to shame. If I had to do it over I would dump the built in Navi.
