Im new to the forum and hope ye can help.Im driving a Mitsubishi Spacestar 1.3cc



My car has a manual gearbox.I have a problem in that when I put the gear lever in the reverse position the car goes into 1st gear instead.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and is there a fix for it?

That is a most unusual problem considering where the gates are for first and reverse.
I have a 1.9 Spacestar and reverse is to the right and back where first is left and forward.
Reading left to right, the forward gates are 1st, 3rd and 5th. The backward gates are 2nd, 4th and reverse. Does the lever stay in the correct position when you select reverse? If so, then someone has dismantled your gearbox and not put the gate levers back in the correct order. That will be a garage job to fix.

Hi I bought a space star 1.3l 3 months ago and I have the same problem. Sometimes reverse is fine but other times it just wants to go into first. I'll get it looked at in march when its due a service and will let you know how I get on.
