I drive 2001 Galant GTZ. Today my car did not start. Battery is fine just replaced 4 months back. Power is there .. radio turns on. Jusk click sound when ignition key is turned. I called the tow service and took to AAA approved auto service. They told me that starter motor needs to be replaced. Is that the reason why car does not start ? I thought some electrical fuse might be the problem.

How much does auto service charges to replace starter motor ( labor + part)
Also any one know what is life of starter motor ? Which brand is good and what is OEM brand ?

Thanks,

a STARTer would be the reason your car would not START. and i don't understand the rest of the question. are you asking how much a starter replacement costs? what were you quoted? Starters usually last over 100,000 miles but if you're under that no one is going to warranty that. always go with OEM. it has a warranty longer than a NAPA and it will be the right starter for your car.

I just paid $325 for labor + part on my 2002 galant to replace starter. I think I got a little ripped off though.

Before you replace the starter, check the positive battery terminal connector. It is a two piece assembly that is bolted together. Take it apart, and clean it good. I replaced my starter after the same symptoms, only to have my '01 Galant still not start. Turned out that there was just enough dirt/corrosion between the two plates to mess up contact. Just a thought!

I have the same car except it is an ES. some times my car also does this but if i wait 1 to 15 minutes it will start up. I bought this car from someone who was in an accident. i had to replace the passenger door and the lower control arm. i originally thought that it might be an anti-theft issue because of the front passenger door but i don't think that i have one(anti-theft system) installed in my car. any ideas on how to fix this?
