I have a 2003 galant V6 with 85k and it has recently started idling very wierd, it will rev up sort of high, then go very low, 500 rpms, sometimes it has even died, any ideas on what the problem could be?

edit: if that doesnt fix the problem turn your attention to your mass air flow meter on the end of the air filter box leading into the engine. get a 5 dollar can of mafs cleaner and clean it up. the idle is spiking becuase its recieving little/no/scrambled signals from the mafs.

sorry but thats entirely wrong. Mustangs have this very same problem after a while of use. Your IAC sensor went bad, and your going to need to get a new one. Thats why the idling is spiking and why it eventually stalled. Get a new one and your problem will be solved. Its connected to the throttle body.

*is this car a mustang? no

*did i have this exact same problem with my car and is this exactly what i did to fix it? yes

*is it easier and cheaper to clean out a mafs before asking a stay at home mom with a child to replace an iac? fill in the blank

I don't get everyones insistance to replace parts before looking and diagnosing.

dancerpee, try my suggestion first before you spend money on a part that you may not need
