We are having the exact issues with are car as well. 2008 wicked white gts..There are tiny tiny rust spots all over, which they claim are from a car wash..Also the paint has chipped off both back doors ( which was fixed and 3m tape put on to stop it, which since has fallen off in my driveway)haha..Also the paint chips on ALL over the trunk and one on the hood.. I have had it for 2 months now and it"s been in the shop for half of that.. The car has refused to start on me several time and it has been towed. No-ones seems to know the problem.. I also slammed the trunk today and a peice of paint flew off..

Wow that is horrible.... If my car starts to rust I wont own it long.. I spend to much time cleaning and detailing to have a new car rusting out on me. I never go through a car wash. It is only hand washed or I go to those laser car washes. I havent really looked at the back doors yet and I don't see any spots on the roof, trunk or hood (other than the big chip I have)...

I think Lancer 2008 GTS dosent works well in colder areas, most of the GTS owner here never really complained about their cars failing to start,as for the paint i realised that it fine here with the warm weather all year round but yeah after certain years exposing to the hot sun, cracks and pops up are common on the roof top (lancer).

Don't get me wrong I love the car. It looks cool, but it's so disheartening when you waited 3 months to get it, and when it finally arrives , it's just one dissapoiment after another. I'm just worried about the paint and I'm not sure what to do

It's not looking good. The third pary arbitration company advised me they could not take this to arbitration due to the fact that the problem has nothing to do with the warranty.

I spoke with an attorney today. He advised me we could win the case, but it would cost a lot more than a $2000 paint job. He agreed with me that the car is flawed. He further advised me that filing a claim with the Better Businss Bureau may help. If you state in our claim that you will be advising other consumers not to buy their cars, they may help you in order to shut you up.

I ordered some touch up paint from drcolorchip.com. I will try that when it arrives. Check out the site. The results look good.

Oh well, another problem. It snowed here and they sanded the roads. I just got a chance to wash it good on Sunday and the back end of the side skirts look like they've been sand blasted.

Guess this will be another battle with the dealer or Mitsu. They need to come up with some type of coating to put in that area that can take the beating but still look good.

Well after reading this thread, I took a stroll into the parking garage and surprise, my hood had about 10 tiny rock chips too!WTF MITSUBISHI?

Now I have the pleasure and trying to find a fix for this defect as well.
I can't find a "clear bra' applicator shop in Halifax, so looks like I paying 60$ for the hood protector and touch up paint. THANKS MITSU!!

Does anyone have the hood protector on their ride? any good?

Anyways...best of luck to everyone.

When I dropped my car off Friday to have the "pull to the left" problem looked into I showed the service manager the "sand blasted" skirts on my car and he agreed that should not be happening. Their body shop said it appears it was just affecting the clear coat for now. He's going to have the body shop fix it and try to find a way to keep it from reoccuring.

If they can't come up with a fix I may start looking for some front mud flaps to modify so they fit my car.

Same boat you are in....My Rally Red now is poka dotted.
Little white spots here & there.....rock chips.

Cheapy paint job for sure......this sucks, but what can we do? Mitsu will no doubt
blame it on us....& of course NOT take blame for it.
I really expect my car to look like sh*t in a few years to the point where I won't even want to look at it....it just makes me sick.
My 2003 TrailBlazer had 52K on the clock & was 5 years old when I sold it to my Grandfather. That vehicle still looked showroom new with ZERO swirls & had barely any rock chips. My 2 month+ old Lancer looks like a$$ & way way worse than my 5 year old car did.
Sad to say...I am not having much faith in the Lancers finish.

QUOTE(SimmoES @ Feb 18 2008, 12:05 AM)

and right after that, buy the clear bra protectant and slap it on hood and bumper to prevent this from happening.. all in all, u would spend at most $200 now, rather than thousands later.

With how easily the paint is already chipping, imagine what it would look like if you got even the littlest piece of dirt caught in that bra... clear or not, it will scratch it. I don't think it's even worth the risk.

The clear bra is adhesive plastic strip that is applied directly over the car's surface so that you barely notice it. It does not trap dirt since it applies like a sticker over the painted surfaces, and you can easily remove it later on. The manager I spoke with today said she had one on her blazer for six years with no problems!

So what areas do you guys find are chipping the most?

I took this shot with my phone so it's not he best but it does illustrate where my major problem is occurring. Notice the rear door edge into the rear fender in front of the tire, there are 60+ individual chip/pocks I noticed these with less than 500 miles of all pavement driving. I live in Colorado Springs and the road crews do spread gravel and sand mix on the roads during snow storms, but come on...

The other side is not quite as bad yet but I also have 20+ chips/pocks all over the car, random in nature hood, roof, doors, quarter panels etc.

If I did use the clear bra after repairs would you recommend touch-up paint or area repair meaning a sand, prime, paint, clear in my bad areas around my rear tires?

The sales manger quickly assessed the problem was sand on the roads (maybe he's been reading the forums too) and no front mud flaps; which the standard Lancer flaps will not fit on the GTS because of the air dams.

Is there an after market option for the front mud flaps? Rally Armor?

It's sounding like our bumper to bumper doesn't cover this??? Anyone successful at the shop convincing them they own some of this issue????undefined

Well I think it absolutely insane that Mitsubishi makes cars where the paint fall off. Good quality! I still waiting a response to ALL the complaints I sent in. Not one so far. Ya they really back their cars up. No wonder I need a 10 year warrenty. The thing is a peice of crap. It is the worst mistake I have ever made, and I would NEVER recommend this car to anyone!

I was just informed by member "J fifer" that Rallyarmor.com is in the final stages of approving mud flaps for our model Lancers. I signed up with their website so that when they become available, I'll get an e-mail. I'll def pass this on the members here as well.

Regarding, the question whether to Re-finish or simply touch up affected areas prior to applying the clear bra. It would obviously depend on the amount of paint degregation. I mean if it's just a few chips, then touch up paint with a dab of clear coat should suffice. remember once you apply the clear 3M film over painted surfaces, what you see prior is what remains.

As mentioned by various other members, I am extremely dissapointed with Mitsubishi. This is just another issue to add on the long list of 08' Lancer problems. They shouldn't be turning people away at the dealer, especially those customers who shelled out thousands on extra paint and corrosion warantees. A service bulletin or recall should be implemented in order to apply another layer of clear coat. MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE, Never mind. In any case, I would advise any member to file a complaint through mitsubishi. link below for contact info.
