I realize I am a newbie, but on Yotatech.com we have a generation breakdown for the 4Runners. It lists difference in engines/body styles for different year models and such. For example the 3rd Gen 4Runner ranges from 1996-2002 and had both the manual and auto options and 3.4L engines and not sure of the other engines available, but you get the idea. It would help a lot of newbies like myself realize the differences from the earlier gens as well as advantages/disadvantages from differences in years. A small example of disadvantages... the earlier 3rd gens had cupholders that fit in the console and usually breaks, the earlier 3rd gens have frosted headlamps compared to the later with the clear headlamps with reflective mirror inside the housing. Stuff like that, I realize it's some work and researching involved but it would help from clutter postings such as "I'm looking at an 2003 Eclipse, any known problems?" Just my 2cents.

Do you mean like a stickied topic at the top of the page that breaks down the specs of each sub model for that generation?

No I was referring to a separate topic just for a breakdown of each gens. I realize there are stickies, but in another forum they just tended to become clutter and on yotatech.com they just listed a separate topic for them.

I couldn't tell you the first thing about Eclipse stuff, but here's a link to something I was talking about http://www.top4runners.com/ja/runhist.html (after I just clicked on it I didn't realize they have changed a few things, but it's still the same setup as I was discussing.)

Haha, Yeah I went to the website and looked around and couldn't find what you were talking about.

I know there are writeups out there. I started writing one for the 3000GT, its just soooooooo much information.

Not too much to write up for the 3000GT. They kept a lot of things the same over the years. As for any other cars, I cant speak for those :)

If you want a write up on the changes over the years for the 3000GT, let me know. I'll throw one together.

Yeah the setup on it has changed since I last looked years ago, but it basically broke down each Gens and Years that new stuff was added whether it was big or small. From Engine/Body changes to options such as cupholders/headlights/grilles and ect. I'm not trying to "dictate" the forum or anything and realize you mods have a big enough job trying to govern the forums but it's just a suggestion to help newbies like myself know the difference between our gens and another and small details.
I could tell you a lot of stuff about a 3rd Gen 4Runner vs. a 1st or 2nd Gen 4Runner as well as a bunch of aftermarket options available for the 3rd Gens, simply because of reading and researching on my own part. The problems we had with Yotatech was the newbies would post up the same questions over and over about going from an earlier gen to a newer gen vehicle. It avoids clutter in the threads.
A side note though... I was highly impressed by the stickie about aftermarket stuff that works/don't work with the Eclipse. I've had to research and experiement on my own along with other members in order to find what works for my vehicle and what doesn't so we have a separate topic for it as well. Broken down by Engine, Electrical, Offroad Performance, and Body.
