Is anybody experiencing a lot of noise when using the RCA inputs (I have the Sun&Sound package)?

Listening to CDs is fine, but plugging my iPod into the aux inputs results in a whine that changes in pitch with the engine RPMs. I'd rather not use a ground loop isolator if there's a better solution.

It could be your iPod or the cable you're using to connect into these inputs.

I have tested my friends iPod in the car and it sounded perfectly fine.
I'm also running an XM radio unit through these and it sounds good as well.

Now, I did have a Sirius unit in there b4 I switch to XM and the high pitched engine noise was getting picked up and would increase in volume and frequency as the RPMs went up, i.e. above 2k RPMs it would start getting pretty bad.

Check a different iPod if you can, or check with different accessories to find out whether the problem is the car or the accessory that you're using.

It could potentially be that something is not wired or shielded properly in the vehicle, in that case the dealer should fix that for you.

wow.. so check it out. I was told by one of my Mitsu geniuses the following:
Lancers that come with RCA aux, sometimes have alternator distortion, depending on device plugged in. Even when using 3.5mm jack, if u have RCA aux, the 3.5mm jack will also have distortion. So its got something to do with RCAs . Sorry its not really detailed, he doesnt work for dealership or anything, its just something he told me.

Hm okay since we're talking about this.
When you guys don't have anything plugged into the RCA but set the stereo to the AUX input do you hear any noises?

In particular mine sounds like a regulated almost scanning sound as if it's looking for signal (happens whether the engine is running or not). Then once you plug a device in the signal goes away... almost. If you crank it loud enough (without any actual throughput from the plugged in device) you can still slightly hear that signal.
It's a bit strange to me?

And I guess I have to mention that last time I was driving on a highway, and driving quite fast (around 160kmh steady - high RPMs) after a while I could hear the engine or alternator noise a little bit through the XM radio. Not much to pick out right away but after a couple hours it seemed to be there.
So perhaps there is something messed with the inputs... who knows?
I'll try to remember to ask next time I'm at the dealer.

I'm pretty sure it's not the iPod itself ... if I leave the cable connected to the RCA aux, but don't attach the iPod I still hear the distortion. I haven't tried just switching to AUX and unplugging the patch cable.

I've just ordered a shielded 3.5mm->RCA cable to see if that makes a difference.

My distortion is pretty noticeable when I'm listening to something mellow like classical or jazz, less so of course when it's rock or hip-hop.

The manual states that if you are charging the ipod with the lighter adapter its going to make that noise. Try to use the ipod without charging it. :57:

yea cuz when im charging mine and playing music at the same time it make that noise but when i dont charge it, it sound fine.

i use a cable that goes in ear phone part not the charging part and i think that since you have a cable that goes in the charger part that is whats making the sound. try getting a cable for the ear phones and i think it will work good

Don't have a car charger for the iPod, so I'm pretty sure that's not it :)

I have a simple question,

I bought a Lancer 2008 GTS with the radio upgrade and the sunset. I recently found the aux rca input near the dash. The input don't work. I'm on aux on the radio but no sound coming throught.

Does your aux cable was working out of the box. Did you bought it in Canada ?

Thx

Could be a bad install or it could be a bad wire. Take it back to the dealer, let them deal with it. =)

Its bad RCA wiring! its either one of ur RCA's are lose and picking up the RPM whinning or its a RCA thats not even conected, and touching a metal surface on the car.

i have an ipod cable that connects into the bottom of the ipod where u would plug ur charging cable into, its not charging wen i plug it in though, thats just where the cable plugs into. i have no noises at all having the RCA's plug into the bottom of my ipod.

if you connect the rcas to ur ipod through the ear phone jack thing, thats when u seem to get some noise.

i get none at all with my cable. so i highly doubt its the car or the RCA inputs jacks. just spend an extra 5-10$ nd get a descent cable!

OK, this actually happened to me last night. It went away after I had the car off all night last night.

It's just annoying to know that it happened. I have a retractable swiss gear RCA to 3.5mm jack, so I know it's not a cheapo wire.

your rca cable are too close to any of the high current power cable.

when a hight current flow it form a radiation at the cable, this radiation will cause a
interference to the rca signal if your rca cable are too close to it. and input into your radio set and amplify the radiation turn to sound. when you ram the engine the noise become louded is because the alternator increase the charge higher current flow.

another possible is the output wattage from you ipo is over the limit that your head set can be accept and cause distortion.

lower your ipo volume and increase the volume at your head set.

just maybe.

Wow, after reading this, I realized that I was charging my MP3 player while I was using it... and the charge port is not even an inch away from the 3.5mm jack. That's why I've never had the problem before.

Kudos DKTRL. Well done my friend!
