the carisma i've just bought doesn't start, but when i take off the position sensor and open the throttle manually it started, i was told it would be the sensor but i spoke to a mitsubishi mechanic who told me it would be the magnet on the other side of the throttle body that would be knackered? is this correct or would a good clean sort my problem out, as he says the position sensor probably isn't at fault? what do you guys recommend

Did you check all vacuum lines for a possible leak? This could very well be teh cause of your idle problem. Often times vacuum lines off the intake manifold crack from heat.

i checked all them. seem to be okay, i turned the ignition on and checked the position sensor by putting foot on accelerator but nothing happened, could this mean the sensor is faulty?, is there another way of checking this eg (multimeter),
does anyone know what controls the throttle flap, which opens and closes the flap, the magnet or the sensor, does anyone know the order? cheers for your help

yes the gdi. is they a way of preventing throttle bodies overheating etc by cleaning it and the inlet manifolds more often? or is this a problem that can't be avoided and it will happen? cheers

if it is gdi and the throttle is stiff to operate then the first mech is most likely right and the magnets have piled up inside the throttle body.no repairable and very expensive to replace.some of the shogun pinin gdi throttle bodies total near £1000 to buy and fit.I have seen a lot of people trade them in rather than endure the expensive repair. If I remember correctly turning the key on and off does operate the throttle body flap from open to closed but it will not move with pedal application unless running.you can try and manually flip the throttle with a screwdriver to partially open it should effect the revs. You may want to listen to the mitsi tech as we see these faults a lot more than the average mech and normally are leading you in the right direction.I know some dealerships give us a bad rep but not all are that way.good hunting regardless

mitsi tech?? is they also a way of stopping these magnets from piling up?, i take it they pile up because of carbon build up and become hard to operate so the magnet overloads?, so would always maintaining the throttle body etc help towards a healthy throttle body servomotor?? anyone know

mitsi tech-mitsubishi technician
as for preventing this occurance I personally believe it is a design flaw.the carbon build up issue is not really a factor as it will only cause the unit to fluctuate more while trying to keep the vehicle running.keeping the throttle body clean is more of an aid to performance and economy. As well mitsubishi has also recommended fully synthetic oil to assist in carbon build up prevention instead of the semi-synthetic.

well surely if the carbon built up in the throttle body butterfly it would stop it opening/closing correctly thus making the servomotor run harder and lead to it overheating?, what you're saying would mean that everyone is going to have to change it sooner or later and it can happen more then once, then your going to have to keep changing it every few thousand miles
