are people in canada having the same issue? since the cars seem to be a little different
i will ask my dealer about this though cause they mentioned something about another small warranty for tire and paint. i guess it will be will worth it if it happens here as well. (about 400-500 i think$$)

I would like to think minus a few subtle differences that our Lancers in Canada are the same as the Lancers in the U.S.

Yes, if you read the thread and others in more detail, you will see that many Canadians have the paint chipping issue. The paint/corrosion warranty is usually ineffective for this defect.

I went and asked my dealer here about it and they said they are know about the issue and they are getting come clear plastic things to go around the base where the are is getting damaged. my buddy who was with me said his echo has the same thing. you dont really see them unless they are dirty. then you can see the edges around it.

I would get the mudflaps if I were you. You can at least put the on the front & the rear. The GTS's can't have them on the front. They don't fit & they don't have any yet that do.

Talk to the delaership & get it documented! Find out what you will have to do if anything about that problem. More than likely they will do what they can to penalize you when it comes time to turning it back into them. Do whatever you can to protect your a$$.

I had to reply again. My mother-in-law has a brand new Toyota Solara Conv.
She pretty much does the same drive to work that I do. After looking at her car the other day, she too has little bitty ships all over the hood. Not so much anywhere else on the car, but still.

Looks like maybe more than just Mitsu....maybe other companies now a days are using cheaper paints to help them save $$$$ while sticking it to us in the long run.

Just my 2 cents.

Somewhat good news:

Next week, I'll be bringing in my car to the dealer. Apparently, all of the paperwork is set to go regarding:
-Mitsubishi will pay for repairs ONCE.
-Mitsubishi will NOT pay for the service again.
-The dealer is selling me a clear film protector for the affected area. Price is ~$110. Apparently, a bunch of Toyota cars tend to have this.
-The dealer is also selling me front mudguards. Price is ~$40 for the set.

I'm annoyed that I have to shell out $150 in preventative gear that should have already been on the car, but I'll pay it to end this potential nightmare. I guess this is just one more thing I need to be aware of when I purchase my next car. If I had known to look for this problem, I would have noticed it immediately. But c'mon... who expects a design flaw like this to make it past QA?

After bringing in my black gts to the dealer they took pictures of it.
Week later - repainted all affected areas.
3 Days Later - installed 3m film for free on affected parts.

I'm still trying to bother them for mud flaps for free ;]

I have my Lancer GTS 2009 for one week now, and after reading this thread I decided to take some actions - thanks to this thread.

1- 3M Protective film applied to: hood 12", roof 8", rear door bottom... see attached pictures.
2- Car Brite paint sealant applied to the whole car. This is professionnal paint sealant. This was a 4 hours job, overall! I did it myself, and I know it is applied *everywhere*. I will mostlikely re-apply again during the summer.

Also, I will probably apply more 3M protective film to the bumper next week (before the bumper ships).

Take a note that the paint sealant goes white when drying, and will highlight the 3M protective film border. I used a toothbrush to remove the sealant from the 3M protective film layer... toothbrushing my car was a bit strange... I did it when my neighborhood was at work ;)))

I think this the best we can do. Maybe not... if I had more money, I would have gone to a paint shop to apply a good "clear" over the whole car.

Regarding paint quality, the problem is not only Mitsubishi. A friend of mine have a Mazda 3... the car ships very easily and he claims that this is the worst car he ever owned. I think companies save money on features that are not a direct plus value at purchase time. A very good paint job takes more time, and certainly costs more to make, and will not make you decide to buy this or that car. You will decide based on the style, sound system, Horse Power, etc.... they know that. They are more and more sophisticated regarding marketing.

So I've added some pictures to inspire you doing the same, maybe, if you think this is a good idea. I used the "Add Attachement" feature for the first time.. hope this will work...

Im thinking about doing the same thing to my car now that i hear all these horror stories. Does anyone know if the clear plastic messes up the paint or anything when you go to take it back off? Also does anyone have pictues of mudflaps on the graphite gray color. I want to them but i dont know if they will look weird on that color. Everyone has come up with some great ideas to solve this problem, but you would think of all of us can think up idea why cant the manufacturer just build the car a little different, or something to solve the issue.

Just looked at my car again after I had it washed. There are more & more of the little chips all over the front & right in back of the rear doors.
I am so fed up with the paint on this car I feel like getting into an accident just to have the silly thing repainted. It's so darn annoying!

I just brought a 2008 ES and my dealer is trying to sell ResistAll for $600, but I read some place that it's just a wax job. So have anyone here tried it? all these pictures are scaring me here. I will need to seal up the contract tomorrow(monday), so please respond. thanks.

xdw, my advise, don't go with it. Three things to do:
- 3M protective film (should be around $150-$200; I've paid $150 for all 3Ms in pictures in my post above)
- good paint scellant, I used Car Brite, but any professionnal scellant will do the job. (should pay $100 max)
- Mud Guards.

okay, my car was at the shop all day to get windows tinted and applied protection film on it.

The tinting went well, but the protection film..... Look at the last 2 pictures and you'll see there's like 2 little dents on the protection film.

I didn't spot it when I left the shop until I got home. I called the installer and told him that I'll send him pictures and call him again tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

Also, I noticed that on a particular part, there's still water underneath the protection film. Just a tiny little bit of water. Is that normal? Will it dry out eventually?

So I spoke with the installer today and he's pretty convinced that just let it seat for couple days and that mark will shrink/disappear. Also, he said the water that's sitting underneath the protection film is actually alcohol and will eventually dry out also. If that doesn't go away in a week, he'll take care of it for me.

I guess I'll just let my car seat in the driveway for awhile and see what happen after a week.

Those "dents" look more like bubbles and bubbles don't go away on their own. I can't blame them though... bubbles usually occur in hard places like corners and any angled area. Let it sit for a week, then go back to the installer and let them know what's up.

Your installer is right! I had a few large bubbles and they do dissapear after a few days! Let the car bask in the sun as that speeds up the process.

If they dont disappear in a week, what the installer might do is just take a razor blade and poke a tiny hole to get the air and and take a squeege to get the air out.
