Hmmmm, I bought my wire for less then $7.00, the unit to control the ipod on the stereo itself is $200.00........I'll save the $193 bucks for gas, or tint, or something else, and control the music from the ipod itself.

You're missing what I'm saying... the $200 kit is a special wire harness that connects directly to the stock headunit and allows you to connect your MP3 player to the car stereo. This $200 kit is for the Lancers that do not have the option to hook up a MP3 player to the stock headunit. All DE's are like this. The ES's and GTS's have this option, so they wouldn't need the $200 kit... just a wire.

Also, the $200 kit doesn't allow you to control anything from the stereo. It just broadcasts the signal from the MP3 player directly to the car stereo (which is how you have it set up, just like everybody else with this feature).

They are two completely different things.

Ohhhhhh. I see. Thanks for the info. I still think all cars should come standard with a plug in for MP3's. CD's are "starting" to go the way of the cassette.

CD's are starting to follow the same route as the cassette, but as long as they have MP3 playback, it will still let them keep a strong footing in the automotive world. I have a 32GB Creative Zen MP3 player and I still use my MP3 CDs. It's much easier for me to use the Navi screen to navigate.

I second the MP3 input jack... eventually, it will become a standard feature for cars to come.

Just installed the ipod cable to the head unit of my 08 Lancer GTS. Special thx to the guys at Project Lancer for the installation help and info

DO NOT pay $175-$200 for this cable at the dealer. Installation instruction

I ordered mine at Mitsuaccessories.com for under $50. Mitsubishi Part # MZ360136EX. For this site it's actually under Outlander and not Lancer since the cable is for both cars. My GTS have no navi, sun and fun pack, so it doesn't have the RCA type plug in the dash. Thought I had to splice the three wires but fortunately the slot was unoccupied and I just had to plug in the cable.

I don't know how the dealer could charge $200 dollars for the cable unless that includes the installation fee. Here's what happened to me:

I went to the dealer a few months ago, gave him the part number for the cable and he quoted me for $63, which is not bad. Last week I decided to buy and install the cable so I went back to their parts department and ask the guy (different guy at the desk) for the same cable. He said $175 for the ipod cable! WTF! Got the feeling I'm being scammed, so I said, must be a mistake the cable is for the 08 Lancer and was quoted for $63 last time. The guy acts like he's looking up further on the computer for a few minutes then said no, no such cable for the Lancer. I said well how about under the Outlander since they use the same cable. Another minute on the computer then he said no, none under the Outlander either. LOL! Moron lost a $63 sale, because he was being greedy and wanted $175 for it.

BTW- I didn't have the part # with me the second time so maybe he thought I was stupid...
