Hi, I just wonder, how much you guys get for a gas mileage. I bought car in Canada, drive in Toronto, my current gas economy is like 15L/100km,
my dealer just told me that its OK!!!, but when I was buying my car they swear to god that it will not pass 10L/100KM, and they not going to do anything about that. So I would like to know your opinion and your experience :puzzled: :puzzled: :puzzled:

Uh-Oh....not good with my convertions here....but I am getting around 29mpg up & back to work. That's what I am averaging when I go to fill up.

I get anywhere from 30-40 mpg on the highway....according to the on board computer. My commute has alot of hills & not really much of flat roads....so there is why there is a 10 MPG difference. Roughly around 26 in the cities stop & go. I normally drive it kinda slow & maintain constant speed with the cruise control.
Best so far on the highway on relatively flat roads without many hills....it will get me around the 40+ mpg.

So far I have around 2400 miles on it in just over 1 month....seems like the warmer the weather, (& it gets to be maybe highs of 40 lately) the better I get. I am looking forward to getting an air intake & maybe some kind of a quiet exhaust to help get me a few more MPG...hopefully.

Hope this helps.

Before I give you my figures, allow me to point out a few things:

1.) Digital is not as accurate as analog. Just because you have half a tank doesn't mean you have half a tank. Just because it says 19MPG (8KM/L) doesn't mean you are getting 19MPG (8KM/L).
2.) The MPG (KM/L) calculator on the dashboard will show the average based on the last 4 hours of driving. Should the car be off for more than that, then it will reset to null.
3.) The correct way to calculate MPG (KM/L) is to take the total distance driven on a full tank and divide by the amount of fuel on your fill-up.

Example:
240 miles driven and 13 gallons refilled. (240/13) = 18.46 miles per gallon
387 kilometers driven and 49 liters refilled. (387/49) = 7.89 kilometers per liter

Colder weather will stunt gasoline efficiency. This is why SRI's offer better mileage because they bring warmer air into the engine.

I live in Chicago and we've had a horrible cold spell lately. I've been averaging about 17MPG. The window sticker said 22! TWENTY TWO!

That's really not good. Assuming you don't have a lead foot, after a month or two you should be getting the sticker numbers. I'm getting an average of 29mpg now. And that's not from the car computer which does help me keep a light pedal, but from checking the numbers after several tanks of gas. BTW, my ES was delivered with low tire pressure and low coolant level. And I totally agree with the fact that very cold weather can kill your mileage. It was 2 (F) here last week and even the car computer showed me how bad that hurt.

Any chance you could find a different dealer to get a second opinion?

I realize that the digital guage is not accurate, but I have been averaging about 8.9-10L/ 100km, this is mostly highway driven though....

However, in most days of driving I am getting around the same figure....from practical experience, my daily commute is around 100-140 km round, and I refill every 4 days or so, with 1/4 tank left...

Here's something I totally forgot to ask...

What octane gas is everybody using? I use 87.

You need to call Mitsubishi.. Unless you are redlining in all gears, there should not be any reason to get 15l/100km. In US thats 15miles/gallon. WTF? With my everyday driving I get 31-35 highway, 25-28 city.

Wow, really? So is my 17-18 city MPG something I should talk to my dealer about?

When I drive, I hardly go above 3500 RPM (I do sometimes, but not every time I drive) and I still get poor MPG compared to you. It's very difficult for me to go driving on the highway since I do all my driving in the city. The only time I go on the highway is because I force myself to.

When another member of my family takes the car, they usually get 17mpg in the city. Sometimes even come with even worst...around 15 mpg according to the computer. Oh my god, thats is so awful and almost unbelievable for me. I dont know why, but they dont know how to drive hahaha.
Remember that I pulled 30mpg on the highway someday, driving around 60-75mph for a 7 miles trip. Sticker can be achieved, but requires that people drive well and not too much stop and go I guess.

Even when I do stop-and-go driving within city i get 22-25. If i drive 60-65 on the highway (usually after i drink lol) hell i get like 40-42 sometimes.. provided in ohio highways are pretty flat, no up/down hills.

now comes the fun part, I went to my dealer, in Mississauga, ON Dixie Auto mall, and manager of that dealership told me there's nothing he can do about that, and they will not do anything at all. He also handled me a printout of explanation why the sticker values differ from reality (the article was written in 2006, way before they builded 08 lancer with a new engine), i did ask him about that article, what did he mean by that, he told me arrogantly thats my explanation and I should keep with that. The guy was treating me like a dirty duster. Besides is that normal to get a stupid answers on question why is the low beam so weak in night, to get a stupid answer if I do turn on my lights, from every single service man and also from the genial manager. Thats the reason why I'm asking here in the forum. I'm planing to write a compliant letter to Mitsubishi HQ Canada and exactly to complain on that particular dealership.
Btw did you know that in Canada when you have a flat tire, and you wanna replace your tire in Mitsubishi they will charge you 173 CAD per tire + 35 CAD for work ?, I know its my bad, I did not notice that only after I already paid for that. So what do you thing guys ?

I feel bad for you, but you are probably going to get get little or no response from writing HQ in Canada. At least go farther up the food chain. There may be a NA rep someplace. I see there are four other dealers with the same 905 area code. You're lucky there. My choices are 60 miles north and 60 miles south (each way). I had no problem with my first service, even though they didn't do the job of resetting my service interval. They say that I live in a hilly area, so that's "severe" conditions. Even though I get 28MPG going to work (500 feet up) and 35MPG going home. Next week I go for a new gas tank sensor.

Best of luck.

new gas tank sensor ? well i wont be going to the same dealer again. I do have also a Toyota 4runner, i bought it from the same auto mall on Dixie in Mississauga, ON. What happened is that when I bought the car, they send it for inspection (was a used one) and they did forgot I dont get it how the spare tire in the service, and then they give me the car without the spare tire. Later on i did not notice that coz I was so happy with my first car ever, but there was that problem with the brakes, soft, and half working, i went there for 3 times, they check it 3 times and said its ok, its working just perfect. So I went to the other dealer service, and they checked up the truck and find a lot of flaws in it, god bless I bought an extended warranty, that came in very handy, saved a lot of money for the labor and parts, and they did fix it the right way. So probably folks out of Ontario, to be careful to buy cars out of DIXIE AUTO MALL ... it looks like those dealerships there don't care about anything, and try to rip off every single one who goes there and buys. Others at least try to communicate with you, but those guys not.

Also what do you think about those gas chips sold on Ebay ? what do they exactly do, and is it worth the time ? coz the money i don't care, they cost couple bucks, but im just afraid its very cheap to be true.
