I finally realized getting the sticker MPG is impossible in Chicago. All gas stations in Chicago sell gasoline ethanol blends. There isn't a single gas station in Chicago that sells ethanol free gasoline. Why is this an issue? Well... ethanol provides less combustion. You get less energy from the fuel and thus, less mileage.

The sticker MPG values are most likely deduced using a 0% ethanol fuel.

Silly weather in Chicago is producing some different mileage totals lately.

When it got to around low 50's ( I know....think back LOL) Going down I88, I looked down & I was getting 41.6MPG's!
By the time I parked it in the garage it had dropped to 39.9.

I know that was for only that trip & overall I am now getting about 30mpg's per tank. But as the weather gets warmer...it should creep up a little more.

Freekingwilly.........you got to watch out for those MONSTER pot holes all around Chi town....man they are HUGE! No wonder why you don't get better mileage....stop... go.... swerve...slam on the brakes because of the @$$hole in front of u..... floor it to get through the Red light that changes way too quick.....repeat as needed LOL!

You do more of the city route....I go up & down I88 & 355 everyday.

I get 20/28 mpg, 23 mpg average, I'm not very happy with it either.

Now after I've done some web-based research I'm planning to do some things to help my gas mileage:

- 34 PSI in all wheels
- high flow air filter (I'm checking the K&N website daily)
- fully synthetic engine oil (why not a high flow K&N oil filter too)
- stay away from 10% ethanol gasoline (otherwise you get 10% less power and 10% less mpg)

I'm planning to get close to the mpg of my wife's Civic by doing all these things.

Good luck!

Jeez....what do I have a freak vehicle or what?!
Am I one of the only people on here getting way better than normal?
I just filled up today & I averaged 32.6MPG for the tank. Calculated with my calculator & not the cars computer.
Not bad considering about 10 miles of my 40 miles going to work is stop & go.

i just bought the 09 gts w/ cvt transmission. Came on here today to find out whether or not using 91 or 93 octane over the typical 87 will significantly increase my cars performance and/or mileage. I get a 150 gallon gas card from my work every month so its not like theres a cost issue to worry about. I'm mainly just worried about the short term and long term effects, you know like if its better or worse to run a higher octane.

bobdole_305:

Post this in a new thread...you will get better results than here.

My thought on it is no.....running premium is kinda a waste on the car unless you have a bunch of mods.

thanks man i just did some research on the web to. from what most sites are saying it doesnt do much except help improve the lifetime of some of your engine internals. thats all good and what not but i dont expect to have this free gas forever so in the long run i think the higher priced gas would cost more then just repairing/replacing some of those worn down engine internals. just my 2 cents :)

Not exactly true. Yes, ethanol does contain less energy than gasoline, but running E85 will only decrease mileage by 20-30%. A 10% Ethanol blend (which is about all they sell around here) would at most drop you 2-3% and you wouldn't see any power loss.

from http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/flextech.shtml
QUOTE
FFVs experience no loss in performance when operating on E85. However, since a gallon of ethanol contains less energy than a gallon of gasoline, FFVs typically get about 20-30% fewer miles per gallon when fueled with E85.

I knew my driving like a stinkin grandma would pay off.

I topped the gas tank off all the way where it was all the way to the top. I know, I know.....that's not good for the car, but I needed to know that it was filled to get an exact reading.

I drove the car for 331.9 miles & it got down to the 1/2 mark.

I topped it off the same way that I did before....all the way to the tippy top.
It took only 8.716 gallons.

Overall average 38.079MPG! :460:

Doing 55-60 the whole time & that is with some stop & go driving, but mostly highway. See...our cars CAN get teriffic mileage IF you can keep your foot out of it & be extremely bored while driving

So after I install the Pulstar Pulse spark plugs....maybe I can get more. We will see.

I'm really looking for your spark plug test. I drive like it's 1974 every day. After installing a SPEED air filter I can get 34 MPG average. That's 29 TO work and 38 FROM work. The Lancer loves to rev it up, but it's an impulse I can resist. As for the boredom: that's what the sound system is for. And it sounds better when not going over 3000 rpm.

I agree.....I am going to install them later tonight when I put the kids to sleep. Hopefully all goes well. I won't be able to comment on any "extra" power since I never really get on it. Can't wait to see what it does for the mileage though.
$4.15 a gallon today S*CKS!

Anyone who has a GReddy Ti-C Exhaust... Have you noticed better gas mileage?

I haven't done any MPG research w/ my car, but...

It seems that my tank lasts longer since I've installed it.

:haha:

I have the Ti-C exhaust and an Injen CAI and I am getting about 32 - 34 miles per gallon. Those figures are done by hand, not the cars computer.
