add more bottles of stop smoke say 3 and thicker oil

and dont do oil changes just filters

how many KMS

where is the compression at

you might reduce the smoke buy just replacing the valve stem seals
the head can stay on to have that done

the sigmas had this problem there were 3 sets of rings trialed during recalls

it might also be wise to use a petrol additive such as valve and seat lube, i believe the 2.6 models also had air intake problems, i'd also check the choke as well just to be sure. i remember my 1978 2L Sigma Scorpian had a similar problem which i managed to solve by replaceing the air intake hose and giving the choke a whack with a hammer cause it was sticking.

off topic, i also got the smart idea of attaching a small high speed vacume to the air intake, sort of worked like a really crap super charger hahahaha made the beast go loads better tho.

anyway, as i was sayin, cheak your air intakes.
