Does anyoe else notice that every time you get out of the car and shut the door you get a huge shock. Its got to the point where i close the door by pushign my window and i have handprints all over it from doing that. Every car does this now and then but this is every time and really bad guarenteed. I remember seeing some kind of shock guard when i first got the car and was lookign stuff up on it but i cant remember exactly what it did or where that was. anyone have anythign they do to reduce the nasty shocks?

Its because its winter, drier air as well. All this produces a charge in your car body / metal that will be nastier then you remember from the Summer and Fall. Its no different then rubbing your feet on a fur carpet.

Its not a fault of the car and can be rectified if you ground your car. But if you can wait till spring and fall when the humidity increases you will be fine.

OK, Its not a big deal but yeah I stand outside the door and look at it like I know this thing is gonna get me and every time it does. Its turned into a joke now, late at ngiht we stad outside and see how close we can get our hands without getting shocked then all the sudden you see a nice long blue shock come out and get me. i can usually make it pull to about 2 inches from the car haha. It looks cool at night at least. I just wasnt sure if it has something to do with the texture of the seats. Ive had regular fabric and leather and neither ever gave me a shock like this.

omfg i totally just laughed my **** off when i read the tittle "car keeps shocking me" its sooo true. anyway heres what i do WORKS every time. i have the gts with paddle shifters. ill just grab one of those BEFORE i move. hold onto it and get out. then let go. i guess the shifters are grounded. and im guessing the sport fabric is like super static. i always tell my girlfriend *her side has to shifters* to open the door. DONT MOVE. and hold onto the top of the door, then get out and touch the door one more time. she never gets shocked anymore either. let me know if this works for you guys

lol, at least I'm not the only one. My girlfriend is like afraid of my car, I keep yelling at her because she KICKS her door shut! My brand new car she KICKS! Ill have to find somethign to prevent this before she starts denting in my doors. I dont knwo where I saw it but I swear I saw something that was called like a shock protector or static protector or something and it looked like it went right on the inside of the door or something, it just looked like a little piece of rubber. I didnt pay much ettention to it then because i had just got my car a few days before and was just lookign on ebay and other places for some parts and accessories. Anyone know what I'm talkign about?

I learned to close the door with the tip of my foot!! I'm used to closing all car door like that now!! Someone told me to keep a box of Bounce dryer sheets in my car and wipe my hands with one before I get out of the car.

I find that highly unusual since I have not been shocked once by my car ever since winter started (by your reasoning, my car should be shocking me more, not less). I live in Chicago and during the summer, we have a LOT of humidity in the air and I would STILL get shocked.

When I first got my car, I got shocked so many times that I just learned to live with it. Soon after, I stopped getting shocked... and I realized why. One time I was wiping down my dashboard and I literally felt all the static discharge being absorbed by the shammy. Right after that, I stopped getting shocked by my car.

If that doesn't solve your problem, you can always close the door from the door handle. Plastic won't discharge the electricity, so no shock :)

Yeah, too much electric static . Used to happen to me all the time.
Now I dont touch the part where I always got the electricity flowing, instead I touch first the upper frame of the door and thats it. Problem solved easily.
Definitely irritated me when was happening....

I just realized something. I have a 2002 Lancer oz and a 2007 outlander. I have metal floor mats in the lancer and carpet in the outlander. Everytime I get out of the lancer no shock. I have a indash alpine LCD screen, cd changer, nav, a infinity subwoofer, and an 800 watt kicker amp. yeesh.

sooo... stock outlander thunderbolt shocks
electronic nightmare sports car. no shocks. I took out the dvd player

Both of my cars (lancer and Grand Am) do that. I am almost afraid to get out of my car. My husband has a leather one and he almost never gets shocked. Mine are both cloth interior, so I think that might have to do with it as well

The seat in it almost seem like they are made to generate static.
