QUOTE(dspawn @ Mar 6 2008, 08:46 AM) This is a very interesting topic and as much info you can provide us it's very helpful I was wondering on which brands of oil and oil filters. I will check if on the local retailers we have those brands
There are plenty of good filters out there. The Mobil1 and K&N and filters like that are synthetic media filters. I still use traditional paper media filters. Lately I have been using Valvoline brand filters (made by champion along with K&N, Mobil1) because that is what we buy in bulk at work so I get them for kinda cheap. Wix is another great filter, although you can expect to pay around 10$ a pop for them. They are sometimes available cheaper under the napa gold label. Regular purolator filters are decent filters and are not to expensive either. Pennzoil and Quaker state are both fram filters. Great oils, crappy filters. AC Delco filters are supposed to be great filters although I do not have any local retailers so I do not use them myself. Hastings makes another good filter. Walmart has a great oil selection, but absolute garbage as far as oil filters go.

Mobil1 here. I'd use RP as well, but usually I'll buy a lot of Mobil1 when it goes on sale. RP...... never on sale. lol
As for filters, it's either K&N or Mobil1. Stay away from FRAM. It's funny because I was having a debate with the other Service Manager about Fram filters. We even went into the shop and started asking the techs. All of the Master Techs were highly against FRAM (as soon as the word Fram came out of our mouths the response was "Junk.") The holes are too small to start with. If you compare a Purolater and a Fram (same filter size) side-by-side you can visibly see a difference. I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of limiting the oil flow in my engine. Secondly Frams have been known to come apart. Sure, you might use frams all the time and never have this problem, BUT.... do you feel like taking that chance? The only guys that said Fram were the guys who just change tires. In the end, the other manager said he was going to change filter brands to Mobil1 or Purolater from now on. DON'T USE FRAM!

I've always used Frams oil filters...It keeps my oil pressure high and hasnt blown like you said...I've been using Fram oil filters since i had my civic...and that was way back when. Then again talking about oil and filters is like talking about religion and politics.

I... Hate..... Fram.... When i first got my 93 tsi, the oil filter kept blowing off. I mean, literally, blowing off. Causing me to lose all oil pressure and rendering me stranded. Granted im still running fram (practically super glued on with locktite), i would just recommend from personal experiences anything else.

No it isnt, we posted a couple links that show that the fram is an inferior filter. Filters fairly well, it is just cheaply made. If you haven't had a problem with one on your car, all the power to you. I just don't think its a risk worth taking.
