My mechanic notice that I am missing the heat shield from the bottom of my car. Is this a necessary part? Did my car actually come with one? Is it something I can get from the dealer?

under the car?

EDIT: Under the car between the exhaust and the car itself.

It would be a good idea to probably have one.

My mechanic actually knew I didn't have a mass air flow sensor. It was the guys at work who didn't know my car wasn't suppose to have a Mass Air Flow Sensor. They work on cars all day, I thought they would be able to tell me. The guy at auto zone actually quoted me a price for a Mass Air Flow Sensor for my car. I actually started crying because I couldn't get a straight answer about my car. I've put so much money in this car just fixing this that go wrong with it.

Oh.. ok atleast your mechanic has his *** straight.

But as far as a heat shield under the engine... What exactly is that shielding... the road  Maybe he means under the hood like insulation?

I asked my boyfriend and he said it's a metal plate that protects the engine from rocks and other stuff on the road coming into the engine. Is there such a thing?

I've been under my 96 rs more than you could guess, and believe us when we say there's no shield, and never was. I personally have been into dsm's for about 7 years. I'd say you should check with us before believing what your mechanic or boyfriend say to you as far as the Eclipse goes.

Thank you everyone!!! For all your help!!! I have a funny story!! Ok so everyone probably knows right now I can't sit at a stop light without my car stalling on me. Well this morning I was at the light and I was holding the gas and the clutch down reving my engine so it wouldn't cut out on me and this mustang comes up next to me and thinks I want to race him. The light turned green and I put the car in 1st and it took off and wouldn't you know so did the mustang. I thought oh heck might as well since it's the only fun i'm going to have today!! I really didn't know my car can smoke a mustang!! That was fun, but when we got to the gate at work. I work on a military base and he's in the military. He gave me the ugliest look!!! It's ok his 2000 whatever mustang got smoked by a 95 Eclipse driven by a GIRL!!! hahaha!!! :bwekk:

I know my 3000gt has plastic covers under the engine...ish.

You should have plastics from your wheelwells down and around your engine going towards the front of the car and connected to the front bumper. In no way is it a heat shield.

Granted. Like someone said, what would it be sheilding from the heat. So, we must assume she is talking about the plastic thingy or for that matter nothing at all. I think it is safe to say not to worry about it.

A heat shied goes around the manifold. to the heat will not kill any other parts in your engine bay. Hell i have taken ALL of my head shed and nothing happen.
