:57: Hey guys Monday I traded in my 99 Dodge Diesel pickup with 6in stacks in for a 2000 red mitsubishi eclipse i stumbled upon your guys forums and was just wondering what you guys all do to make these things go fast. Im only 16 so it cant be anything to crazy just something to make it a little more peppy. im not all that new to the game my dad races mustangs and iv been raised around the shop for a while. Yes i took a lickin from the old man for switcin to an import but.... i told him i would wave when I pass him at the gas pump. My eclipse is seeing around 25 mpg vs. my old truck that was 16mpg. so if you guys have any suggestions i would really appreciate readin your comments. And if you guys have any questions for me id be glad to help in any way I can but for right now im just a spectator. thanks :57:

It's going to be difficult to make your RS go much faster than it is right now without spending ridiculous amounts of money. I wouldn't go much beyond an air intake, cat-back exhaust... maybe headers if you had a little extra money to play with. It's pointless to turbo it, imo because after the turbo you're only looking at the stock power of a GT and you could have just saved the money on the turbo and sold the RS and bought a GT or better. Not to mention the engine work you need to do to get your car to handle the increased HP and then the fuel management systems... blah.

Enjoy the car. It's a good car for a 16 year old. When I was 16 I had a 94 Ford Escort LX... finish high-school, get some college or trade school done, get a good job, then by a real car.

First thing, change the V4 in for profile.. it is NOT a V4. :) No such thing as a V4.

Second, ona 16yr old budget - just enjoy your car. There is nothing you can do to this car to make it fast cheap. About the cheapest speed kick you can get out of a vehicle at that age is a used 91-93 MR2 Turbo MkII, disable the Fuel Cut, buy a $60 boost controller, and turn up the factory boost level from 6 to 12 and enjoy an extra 60HP or so.. :)

As far as FI (Forced Induction), you're actually better off having a 4cyl Eclipse than the V6 Eclipse. It will go faster in the long run and the motor is built better. If you have the V6, you will need to mess with the internals before pushing any true power.

Also, since you're in PA - check out the regional site as www.mitsuoama.com. Any meets/shows, etc. in the Mid-Atlantic region we organize there. We have quite a crowd going to Carlisle, PA in May as a heads up not to mention the annual BBQ is coming up in April.
