I find i have the same problem... If you could call it that, with the RPMs, It starts to get winey when im in 5th going 60, I wish They had made a 6th gear. I have not noticed any of the starting problems, or power problems, then again I just got the car today, and only have 160 miles on it.

Well, none of my problems are critical. I can live with all of them. I guess I was just comparing apples with oranges (Civic vs. Lancer, smooth vs. rough, F1 vs. rally).

The starting problem: it starts eventually, it just makes me feel for a second that it won't start.

Good luck!

I bought my 08 GTS 5 speed with S&S jan 17. I have had nothing but problems with mine. It has been in the shop a total of 4 weeks. 1st starting problem at 1k changed the relays that helped the starting problem but did not fix it. 2nd at 3k new clutch and new transmission and first oil change. 3rd it smells like rotten eggs going back to the shop again. I'm 29 and i know how to drive a 5 speed. The car has only 4k on it now. The only thing i have had to pay for is the rental car. $60 a day time 4 weeks ouch. I wish i never bought this car.

Sorry to hear that man.
Mine is leased, and I decided I will keep it only if I won't have any big problems with it. So far I only had the known issues, nothing big, 0 days in the shop.

I think the manual ones are giving problems. I have the CVT GTS. So far no problems with it. I did want window tints but now that people mention the trouble with it, i might keep it stock. Though i'm not keeping the car stock right now since i just dropped a injen cai into it. And if you don't like the way it sounds at certain rpms, the injen cold air intake solves that problem. At 2500 rpms i can hear it about to roar and when u get it over 4k you will love it. My car is in NYC and its been 6 months and 4000 miles and so far no problems with it. All in all i think the dealer you buy it from makes a big difference. Not all dealers are created equal. If anything go to about 2 or 3 dealers like i did.

For everyone with the starting problem, Mitsubishi will provide you with a replacement relay. It is not just a cold weather issue. A TSB is in the works. This comes from my Mitsu dealer.

My dealer has been more then awesome from the first day I walked in to look at the Lancer which I was cross shopping with the Civic Si and Mazda3. They even provided me with a loaner car because my old car's transmission and clutch blew up after 240000k (It was a GM and everyone was impressed it made it that long) so I would no longer need to rent a car while I waited for my new Lancer to be ready. They're even helping import the WORKS suspension package at the same price WORKS is quoting and giving me a huge deal on the install (cheapest quote so far and it will be done at the dealership). These are just a few examples of what they've done for me so far. There are others.

That really sounds like an awesome dealer!. By any chance would this dealer be located in the GTA?
I am hoping to pickup the 09 GTS and praying Mitsu fixed all the problems '08 had

Similar to ur case, Mazda3 and Civic are on my list too. Will test drive all 3 hopefully by end of this month

It is in London and they already have a few 09's on the lot. All cars will have problems including the Civic and Mazda3 but my Lancer has been really including the paint job which has held up really well with a lot of highway driving. I have no stone chips on my hood at all and none of the "sand-blasting" others have complained about. The only issue I've had is the relay but there have only been 3-4 times it struggled to start but it did after I turned the engine over a second time and that is a simple fix by the dealer for the issue anyways.

Both the Civic and the Mazda3 are great cars as is the Lancer. My choice just came down to personal preference and a few more options available on the Lancer. Mazda3 definitely had the best interior though and I was testing the Civic Si which was the best to drive but the Lancer had the best overall package for me when I looked at styling, insurance, options, driveablility, cargo space, etc. You can't go wrong with any one of the 3 though. I was able to take the Lancer for a few hours on the day I was testing the other two cars so I was able to compare the other two to the lancer side by side which really helped, see if you can pull off the same thing.

ive just had normal problems plagued for the '08 Lancers (i.e. hard starting that puppy up sometimes, paint chips easy) I did have two that I weren't sure if were normal, the Trunk was tighten I guess in the factory, so when i go to close the trunk it wouldnt close, i would have to slam the trunk like it was a truck door. and it started to wear the clear coat off the trunk, the dealer fixed it, but still looks like its close to the bumper.

Also---I can see some little rust specs through the white. Just bought the car in Nov. anyone else seem to have this problem??

I thought it was just me but I've noticed the trunk door is very hard to close as well. You have to slam it real hard. How did the dealer fix yours? Does it take less effort now to close it?

Today was the icing on the cake for my 3 week old Lancer GTS. I was washing the car for the first time by hand. I was spraying it down when I noticed a 10 inch crack from the bottom of the windshield, straight up the middle. I totally flipped!! I'm heading to the dealership first thing tomorrow for a new one. I don't know how it happened, I'm guessing that when they were installing it, they pressed it in too hard.

Also when I start it up and take off, when i release the gas, it glides/coasts for a couple seconds, then slows down instantly like something's holding it back.

You are either very fortunate to live in a warmer climate where relays don't freeze up or your Lancer was built after Nov 07'. That's when they implimented the relay fix (check the inside of your driver's door for the date)

cheers

only problem i've had with mine so far is the engine startup, and that happens only rarely. as far as the paint goes, i just washed it the other day and did a little inspection on it and i dont see any scratches or chips anywhere on it. i've had it since late november and i'm hoping it stays in great condition as long as possible.

I have noticed the thin paint. I have scratches in my passenger door that aren't deep at all. I tried buffing them out and they are less noticeable but I'm going to have to get touch up paint because I always seem to notice them.

My dealer was actually really good, Wanneroo Mitsubishi in Perth. I doubt that will help an Americans though.

Just wondering what problems you all might have had with your Lancers so far? I've had the no start problem...still have it on occasion. The biggest ptoblem I have is the **** trunk leaks and the dealer sucks so it's up to me to fix. I can't seem to find it though, need to get a small person to lay in trunk so I can close it and hit it with water :57:  anyone else have problems?

Hi - I have the same "no start" problem! I thought maybe it had something to do w/my automatic start - but I don't think thats it. I also switched to 89 octane, but apparently that did not work. I have an appt Saturday w/the dealer, so we shall see! I have not noticed any issue w/the trunk :)
