I'm not sure how many of you out there have a GTS with Dunlop tires but if you're experiencing a problem with your car not tracking straight (I'm not talking about torque steer) it is probably your tires. Check this post on Project Lancer:

Project Lancer - Dunlop Tire Problem

I had my car in the shop two weeks ago because I thought the alignment was mis-set by the factory. They said the alignment was fine and sent me off without correcting the problem. Turns out they most probably knew exactly what the problem was, the sidewalls of the tires are warped because of improper storage, but they decided not to replace the damaged tires nor tell me what the cause was.

Yesterday I called them back after reading this post and they acknowledged there was a problem with the tires and then proceeded to tell me that I'll have to take this up with Dunlop. I don't think they're going to want to do anything because Mitsu caused the problem by improperly storing the tires. I know I can't use a dealer name here but they're the only one in Memphis (hint...hint).

I guess this will be the beginning of my first fight with the dealer or Mitsu.

i had a similar problem with mine, the first time i went to the dealer, the mechanic rode a little bit with my car and then he just switched the tire left to right. But it did not solve the problem, so i went back, and they done the alignment, and since that (6-8 months) i don't have any issue (well, now i have my winter tires...) but in my case i dont believe it was the dunlop tires... maybe its just your alignment too?!

It is DUNLOPS!!!!!!!

I went to dealer and demanded to change my tires under warranty.
I got a set of 4 Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S in the same size, alignment and now the car does not pull to the left. Wheel hop also went away. It handles better, I mean way better in snow. You can actually leave the lights gassing with no spinning in snow.

Go get your PIRELLIS FREEEEE under warranty!

I had mine Bridgestone with 18' alloy rims, the only problem only with it i guess is the road noise produced by it,my friend who had similar car and rims yet a michelin tyre tend to have less road noise with those tyre.

Same problem here. I went to the dealers place for an alignment (NTB since the dealership doesn't have an alignment machine to do anything) & they said that my alignment was out.
Immediately upon driving it off the lot....it still did the same thing. Brought it back & they said that I should give it a couple of hundred miles to let things "wear" in...like tire wear or something. I put on almost 1000 & it is only marginally better, but it is still off & it will be going back on my next day off. What a hassle. Of course you know that Mitsu will do ALL that they can to make things better for us

Dunlop pretty much told me that they'd look at the tires but if it's not the tires I'd be responsible for whatever "tab" I'd run up with them.

I got on a stretch of new asphalt this weekend, got going about 80 and noticed that the steering wheel started vibrating badly. Greeeeaaaat, now I have a new car that automatically turns left AND gives your hands a massage. Didn't remember seeing that as an option on the sticker.

I'm not taking this crap from a new car. I called Mitsu USA and filed a dispute.
Mitsubishi said I'd be getting a call from a claims rep today or tomorrow. If they don't I'm tempted to file a potential safety issue report with the NHTSA. That should, at the very least, get Mitsu's attention should they decide to just ignore me.

I'll keep you updated as to what they do.

Let me tell you from my experience with tires (worked at NTW in my younger years)(now NTB) that tire manufacturing has come a long way but is still far less than perfect. At one time, Michelin wast the standard bearer, but now, with advances in manufacturing, there is alot more parity. When vehicles left our shop and returned shortly after for pulling, we would indeed swap the fronts left to right (even if the tires or wheels were directional). If the pulling changed direction, we would move LF to LR. Sort of like a shell game to determine which tire had a belt laid out of bias. Tire dealers experience this problem (especially on vehicles with advanced suspensions), on the order of 1 out of every 75 or so tires. Don't leave the tires on until you are satisfied with the ride.!! And remember, when dealing with tire issues on NEW cars, just remember to hold the person who got the money responsible! I can't tell you how many dealers would send their ride quality problems to us, and not want to get involved! In the end, we would be painted the bad guy, when most of the time the tire manufacturer would reject the claim.

I have never been impressed with the ride quality of Dunlop tires. Indeed, compared to the pricing of comparable Michelin or Bridgestone, they are usually more reasonable. Most of the time, OE tires are made to a higher spec (runout, tread walk, etc) than RETAIL tires. That is why your car ran so nice from the factory. Many times the country of origin is different than the replacement set. Cars manufactured in Japan usually have tires sourced in SE ASIA, where environmental regulations differ. My advice to you, if you'd like to stay with the Dunlops, is have the installer check the tire's 1) runout (roundness to .01" on balancer) and 2) weight distribution (no wheel weights in excess of .75 oz). A good installer knows that tires are paint marked at the factory with harmonic balance points and how to "fit" a tire to an individual rim. Good luck!

That's the first time I've heard someone with this issue that didn't have the 18" Dunlops. Wonder is this is a suspension or steering component flaw?

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem! I took my car into the dealer today because it's been pulling to the left and was making a lot of noise from the rear end. I've had my tires rotated TWICE within 15k miles. It's not even worth trying to rotate them again because they're worn so bad. I take it back in on monday for a service and they're going to put it on the alignment machine and check the wear on the tires. Whatever it is, needs to get fixed... I can't afford new tires every 15k miles.

Well.....went back to NTB & had them realign it. They did whatever they had 2 do & then took it out 4 a test drive. The manager came back & said man.....something wrong with them tires. He put it back on the rack & did a front 2 back rotate. Did another test drive.......same thing....pulls to the left....but this time not as bad....but still noticeable.

I have an open claim on my Navi not being updated.....& now I am adding the tire issue.

I will keep you all posted when I hear more about this.....

Dealership had my car all day Friday and Saturday trying different things to eliminate the pull. They said it's definately the tires so they are ordering me some new ones (didn't have that size in stock). I'll let you know what kind when they're on the car.
