I have a broken Handbrake cable and I am trying to replace it with one sitting in a parts van, problem is I can't figure how to do this simply without getting right into it and removing the whole handbrake infrastructure.

well first of all do you have it at least ran from your emergency brake cable in the rear up around ti the inside of your vehicle? if not you might want to do that. in most cases getting to the underneath part will expose the insert holes to hook your new cable in. if not then just take off the bottom retaining bolts that hold on the hand brake unit itself. when you flip it over you should be able to get to everything.
