Hi,

Last week I bought a 2004 Carisma DI-D.
I noticed that it takes ages (well, 10-15 minutes) for the engine to get to proper temperature (needle in the vertical position). Check the thermostat - it opens in boiling water.
The other question - poor economy. Computer shows 38-45mpg and I'm having an impression (not quite sure though) that economy improves a lot when the engine get to proper temperature.

Any suggestions?

Jerry

I bought my 2003 DID Elegance last August, during the warmer months I was getting 10% better economy than in the winter. My Carisma takes around 3-4 miles to warm up, I tried covering the front grills but it didnt make much difference.
I am not to sure about the accuracy of the on board computer though, mine shows that I am getting 45mpg but when I do a manual calculation eg fuel used against distance covered I am getting 52mpg. I might use my satnav to see if the odometer is correct.
Also see an earlier post of mine, you have to start the engine within 10 secs of turning on the ignition otherwise the fuel metering computer will not work. Got this info from the very helpful service manager at Balmer Lawn Mitsubishi in New Milton Hants.
Regards
Rob

My previous one was Carisma GDI (got a 'carisma' bug :) ) and it was taking a while to warm up, but with this diesel it takes ages. I'll check tomorrow but I reckon it's about 5-6miles on a motorway. My odometer is correct - it was always 24.5miles to work :(
I'm waiting for the tank to empty then I'll calculate what is the true mpg result.
Interesting thing with onboard computer - but I can't find your post. Do you have a link to it?

Many thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,

This the earlier post that I mentioned.
I had noticed that the fuel metering display on the centre consule was not always operating.

I asked the after sales manager at my local Mitsu dealer Balmer Lawn Mitsubishi in New Milton Hants about this.
He very kindly investigated the matter and came back with the message below. I tried this method out over five days and the fuel metering data was correct on every journey.

"Good afternoon

I have carried out some research on your behalf into the fault described in your email , the following notes may help to solve your complaint , if this doesnt work then the vehicle will require to be booked into our workshop to be investigated.

Fault - :
The data in the centre display are fixed and do not change during driving.

Reason -:
This only occurs when the driver waits more than 10 seconds after switchig ON the ignition until starting (cranking) the engine .

When the ignition is switched on the centre display requests data from the engine ecu. The engine ecu then sends the data. If the engine is started the power supply to the accessories including the display is temporarily switched off to allow full load to the starter motor ,once the engine is running the accesories have power again. The centre display will then request data from the engine ecu , if this second request arrives to the ecu close to the first request due to the accessory position being cut off on engine start up the system blocks and the centre display is fixed and does not change although the car is driving. The clock and outside temperature will function correctly.

Rectification -:

The start up routine of the driver requires changing . The engine should be started immediately after the igniton is switched on and the glow plug light has gone out.

I hope this is of some help to you and would be grateful if you could let me know if this cures the problem for future reference

You can guess where I will go for my servicing needs eh!!!!!!!!!!!!

It behaves this way - checked it yesterday.

Lucky you - I have 200m to that place.
In the meantime I'm trying to use full tank of diesel. That's gonna tell me what's the real mpg is (at the moment it's showing 41mpg - not that good). 440miles and 1/8 (on the fuel gauge) tank left.

As to the temperature I guess I have to get used to it probably. Depending on price I might ask Mitsubishi to check it for me during 56k miles service (cambelt).
