My son just had his 60,000 mile servise done on his 2002 Eclipse GT. The store changed out the coolant and the transmission fluid with a flush machine. They also replaced the spark plugs and wires as well as the timing belt and serpentine belt. The cost was $1700 approx. Was this a good price for all this work or not?
Please advise.
Anything else we should be concerned with at this point. The car has been very dependable so far.

Whoa, I don't see any of that costing near $1700.

I'm not an expert but it looks like you got taken for a ride.

thats in pesos, lira, or quid right? not US dollars? or you got shafted, no lube, with rusty barbwire wrapped around a wooden post that gave you splinters and tetanus and now your going to get lock jaw my man. even a shady shop around here in California wouldn't dare charge even close to that. nearly 2 grand? for a basic tune up with a timing belt change. most shops won't even charge you for the serpentine belt time charge except for the part price since they have to take it off anyways to get to your timing belt.

radiator flushes are sucker jobs, there is no possible way to actually get all the rust and particle build up out of your radiator unless you just take it off of your car and rebuild it. as far as a transmission flush. all there is needed at the 30,000 and 60,000 mile marks are to take out the transmission fluid, then the transmission fluid filter, and drain the old fluid out, then put a new filter in and new fluid. no fluid flush is needed thats just stupid.

even as annoying as it is to take the intake manifold off and put it back on the GT motor, to change the spark plugs. it shouldn't take any shop with normal experience but 30 minutes to do the job. and spark plug wires take all of about 5 minutes.

unless your son signed a job waiver that had the underlined "60,000 mile service" which needed to state the approximate price and services needed before hand. you need to call the bureau for better businesses, then call your local channel news that does business investigations. then walk in their and demand a partial refund for paying for padded services or you will unleash the channel 7 news team on them(whatever your channel your new is) or call a lawyer or something i wouldn't let someone take your son's money like that, and if you had to pay for it i would be even more ****.

Thats ridiculous. I was quoted around $350-$400 for the exact same service from Hertz car sales service dept. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^do what he said ...And I will be specific on no flushing the tranny. Might purchase plugs and wires (NGK) ahead of time to save more money.

Wow you guys sure have it so much better in the US. I called my local Mitsu dealer and they wanted $2200 for the 60k service (the $'s at par right now) ! I told him to $*@# my %!@#. For plugs & wires, timing belt, water pump and fluid changes! So, anyway, I'll be buying my family friend a nice bottle of scotch to let me use his tools and garage for an afternoon. What a crock! $1700 is still a lot considering the price of the materials required for the job, $2200 is just plain old rape, without even a kiss first. LOL

A friend quoted me 1200 for the 60K tune up on my 3/S (Tbelt waterpump belts plugs wires)

That was discounted...

I proceeded to blow the foucker up the day before I was bringing it to him. Then I did everything myself for under 400

My quote didnt include water pump and all pulleys,is there any point to upgrade these parts?or just replace w/ oem?
Only time Ive been to Mitsu dealer here was for aluminum fuel door otherwise I avoid it.
I work at a Peterbilt(tractor) dealership and our shop rate is $92 an hour, customers about crap themselves when they get a $17,000 overhead done.
Whereas I work in parts and most parts salesman are on commision based on what they sell( including to the shop)which we at least can cut deals from a
markup up to 4x what our cost is.If you ask you'd be amazed.

1000 bucks is about right for the amount of work that is done.
a timing belt.
plugs.
wires.
coolant flush.
trans change.
oil change.
brake cleaning/inspection
tire rotation.
throttle cleaning.
a plethora of inspections.

you guys think thats all done in 10 minutes? thats a day worth of work.
