You will not get better bass by with 4 speakers.. you could get better bass if you put component speakers with crossovers. which there is plenty of space and even pre-wired space for tweeters...

In fact, if you replace your stock speakers with just full range, you probably will get less bass.

if you replace the stock speakers with full range you'll get less bass?!?!? HUH??!? That is so far from the truth. Replacing the stock speakers with a higher quality 2 or 3 way and run to an amp will give you WAY more bass than stock....that's not even debatable. Granted it won't rattle the windows in the car next to you but if you get good stuff it will give you some nice punch. My car is sponcered by kicker and I have 4 kicker 6 1/2's in the doors and a kicker 350x4 pushing them. It sounds incredible....it'll sound better once the subs and the other amps are in but it's too cold to fiberglass right now ;)

Yes you will get less bass if you change the stock speakers and DO NOT add an amp or get a better HU.

I have first hand experience with this, I chnaged all my speakers out with a set of Polk db6501 in the front and a pair of coax db651 in the back leaving everything the same. The result was a superior mids and highs and loss of some loudness and bass because the stock HU is simply not powerful enough to drive the Polks to full limit yet at least it wont get distorted.

With an amp this setup should be more than sufficient for most mature people who dont seek attention from an earthshattering sub ;)

My question is, if you disconnected the RF sub from the factory amp, and just let it run the 4 speakers, then installed an aftermarket amp to power an aftermarket sub, would the head unit then be powerful enough to run you polks. (No sub draining power from the factory amp, more power to your 4 main speakers).? Is this theory plausable, or correct? I currently have a box with two 12's in it, and an amp powerful enough to push them, so I have been contemplating this theory myself; just picked up my 2009 Lancer 2 days ago, Love it... :P
