I am going to replace the head gasket on my sisters eclipse this weekend. I've replaced a few head gaskets in the past, and done 3 timing belts so i'm fairly familiar with how this is done but i've never worked on an eclipse before. Anyhow its a 2001 with the 2.4L. Is there a write-up on this topic anywhere? I'm sure I can find a nice how-to in a book but they tend to leave out the little details, and considering i know nothing specific about this car I was just wondering if anyone has a write-up or tips on this job.

Thanks,
Paul

any luck Paul?

I myself am fixxing a leaky cam cover gasket. I must admit though, that this is the most stubborn gasket I have ever encountered. hope to break her loose before I hurt myself......

for next time if someone searches it.

1. Release fuel pressure from fuel system.
2. Drain cooling system. Drain engine oil. Remove air intake hose and pipe from top of rocker cover. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors, vacuum hoses, coolant hoses, fuel hoses and cables.
3. Remove power steering pump (with hoses connected if possible), and support aside. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold. Remove upper front timing belt cover.
4. Turn crankshaft to TDC of compression stroke on cylinder No. 1 by aligning mark on cylinder head with mark on camshaft sprocket. Remove rocker cover.
5. Mark timing belt alignment with timing mark on camshaft sprocket. Secure timing belt to camshaft sprocket with plastic tie-wraps to maintain correct position. Remove camshaft sprocket bolt.
6. On Eclipse Spyder, disconnect radiator hose from radiator hose lower connection. Remove thermostat case assembly. Remove "O" ring from radiator hose lower connection.
7. On all models, slide camshaft sprocket (with belt attached) off camshaft. DO NOT turn crankshaft. Loosen cylinder head bolts in 2-3 steps, in sequence. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
