Hello,

I have an 03 outlander. The check engine light came on and the BRAKES PLUS shop said it was the Cat converter. Forutnatly the dealer covered it due to 80,000 mile warranty on it.

Now, I'm getting another check engine and the code says 'system too lean (bank 1)'

Here are some questions:
Is this related to the cat being changed? If so, anyone think this is something the dealer would cover

I've been reading about this and it seems like a possible fix is changing the oxygen sensor BEFORE the cat. How hard is this to change and where is it located?
Can a person do this with 'regular' tools?

I've also read it may be fuel injected related. Would it be worth running a good cleaner through the system before doing anything?

Thanks,
Jay

Ok, so I called around and an OEM sensor was $230 and a universal on $60.

YIPPEEE I did it!

It's very easy to do, basically unbolt and unclip then replace. The only hard part about tye universal one is getting the wires spliced. YOu have to use the clip and grommet from the exising unit and splice to the new unit, but they give you a splice kit that took about 40 minutes to figure out and complete.

The car runs really nice. I just need to get the light turned off to see if this really worked.
