Well i got the engine out of my eclipse for an oil leak that i found out to be the rear main this morning so yes im happy i hopefully fixed it. Now while i was working i kinda chipped the underdrive pulley so now im planning to get a new one while the engine is still out.

Now i want a performance one like the lighter pulley but the problem is im a big music fan an i have heard of the underdrive pulley limiting the sound system that i could have. So this is what i have for my sound system:

-2 15" subs
-JL 500w monoblock for the subs
-4 channel 500w amp powering door/rear speakers
-sony head unit that puts out 52wx4
-farad 500k capacitor

so what im asking is if you guys think its safe for me to put in an aftermarket underdrive pulley. Can't i make up for the lose like a bigger battery or something. I have an 800 amp Duralast(was in the car when i bought it lol) so idk i just dont want to put in an underdrive pulley and then have something **** up on me.

Thanks for your opinion in advance

With a system like that, what's the point in having the lightened pullie?

Go with one or the other, not both.

haha, man, where to start.

here's the deal, if you want a good system you'll have to keep your altenater at full power. a true underdrive pulley is smaller and you'll get less juice from the altenater (but enough to run a regular system) but you get a little more power to the ground. now what your talking about is paying money for a pulley that will add a little power but your adding all that weight for the system which takes the power right back (in terms of weight)

its like going for a jog then eating pizza hut, WTF good does that do?

now what i have on my car is a mach 5 pulley. its lightened alluminium and the same size as the regular, so it takes less to run it but i keep all the same power (electricly) and gain abou 8-10 HP to the wheels.

if your looking to keep your same electric power try looking up something like this, but unless you plan to race your car (not light to light, but on a track with real cars) then the underdrive pulley is about as usefull as a spoiler on a FWD car.

well see you both make good points, and Lewiman06, i dont race on the track i like to do stuff like autocross that has turns and stuff. I take my subs out before i go do this and my amps are mounted just fine so that they wont go anywhere. There not that heavy either i dont have a massive box for them i say the subs and box together are a lil over 50 pounds. Now the pulley really isnt taking that much power away from the alternator is it???

So what if i get the pulley and a bigger alternator? Lol doesnt make sense does it lol..ok so where can i find this Mach 5 pulley

i'd have to ask the guy i got it from. its not the only place that makes one, but i got it from a guy used a bit ago, and i like it so far.

the reason a pulley is becoming popular is it doesn't take much to out it in, you just remove some belts and swap the pulley. its really not that good of a thing to change your alternater and what not just to get it.

but i'll get back to you on where to find one if i can. good luck though.

Man.... Those subs are massively under powered..... 500w is barely enough to power a 15 let alone two.... I hope that's 500w RMS.... cuz that would be ok, still not nearly enough.......... I never have less than 1000w of RMS power in my car, right now i got 2 type R 10's running off a 2000W earthquake that has 1000w RMS and they (*^&^*(& POUND......

2 15" alphasonik subs 600w rms 1200w peak power...JL Audio 500w monoblock for both...they pound pretty ***** hard too...im thinking of downgrading to 12's but i wont take anything that pounds anyless than what i have now. I kinda want horsepower right now that what im looking for i think im done with my system for now but later down the road ill downgrade size but not wattage if you know what i mean.

Underdrive pulleys usually take away about 30% of the energy a normal pulley would produce.
